I just don't get it. Why doesn't anyone here work out? Most people I know in Australia go to the gym in one way or another. People recoil at the thought of doing exercise they don't HAVE to do.

Young Japanese kids are fairly fit. They all for the most part do a lot of track and field type sports and are given healthy meals at school. Most a pretty weak though. Except the baseball team. Those kids are freakishly strong for their age.

Germanfag here,but lives in oz for a while. I thought it's easy to get fit there, but it also seems like many australians are just smoking and drinking there wage away and live from hand to mouth

Most asians that work out make no gains anyway, so they dont or you cant tell.
I live in singapore, theres a billion gyms here and they are all packed as fuck everyday mostly everyone is still dyel.

That being said. I have found a proper weight training gym in Japan with people lifting considerable weight.

But there's only like 40 members total. In a huge city. It's a great gym. Porn magazines lying out in the open and shit.

Ausfag curious about teaching English in Japan one day. What are the gyms like? From most accounts I've read, they're very Planet Fitness. No heavy lifting, take noise super seriously. How do you find a good gym that lets you lift heavy ass weight?

It was not easy to find the place I go to now.

Most gyms are very VERY expensive 60-70 bucks a month. With very very lackluster equipment. Mostly cardio and light machines or some martial arts class.

That being said, it's as simple as googling around. The place I go to had no website and is run by some old guy who just happened to have a spare garage in his factory he uses as a gym.

If you do go to teach English. You'll have about 2 months to investigate your city to try and find something for you. But the "good" places don't appear immediately on a search. The average person's concept of a gym in Australia is very different to the Average Japanese person's gym.

I suppose its like anywhere else really, that said the lower class folks are usually really fat or really skinny and are on drugs, the tradies are fit blokes, people in cities are generally much fitter with better fashion sense, the people up north are either skinny as fuck from hard jobs or black because indigenous and a whole range in between.

That said those that lift here are generally a lot more savvy about it and are built better than Americans - even in fitness clubs.
