What I always wondered, is if a powerlifter hit a world record in squat, then slowly lost fat, wouldn't they be able to add the weight of fat they lost to the bar, as their legs and back are lifting less weight as they lose fat?

sorry to break it to you but it doesn't work like that. Why don't fat powerlifters just cut? They have more muscle than bodybuilders. They lose strength, recovery efficiency, and most importantly, weight distribution which helps them throw around weight and anchor them to the floor, centre of mass, etc. Not to mention cushioning, getting away with shitty range of motion. Yeah, sumo lifters can be lean, they lift the bar 2 inches off the ground. Heavy squatters are almost always fat fucks though. Powerlifting is a joke.

Most people just want abs. Its such an quick goal to achieve. Literally 3-4 months of p90x is all you need to do for most and then its easy breezy dieting for maintenance.

Theres no speeding up powerlifting naturally. Its all long term and consistency.

Might as well disregard diet until you're satisfied with lifts. This process is easy 5-7 years for most.
