>Are they seriously implying that fat people are burning through more calories than I am just because they're fat? Yes, that's how it works. The more you weight, the higher it your basal TDEE. Also, the metabolism slows down a lot when you're "cutting" no matter your starting point. It's an automatic mechanism of defence of your body.
That's why Atkins diet is a thing. That's why you should move a little more if you're cutting (relaying on caloric deficit won't bring you to the great results you're expecting if you're not keeping up that basal metabolism).
That's also why morbidly obese may enjoy more fat loss even if they are eating, for example, more than 2000 kcal a day: because they are still in extreme caloric deficit compared to their size.

>Mr. Cahill set a goal of a 3,500-caloric deficit per day. The idea was to lose a pound a day. He quit his job as a land surveyor to do it.
>His routine went like this: Wake up at 5 a.m. and run on a treadmill for 45 minutes. Have breakfast — typically one egg and two egg whites, half a grapefruit and a piece of sprouted grain toast. Run on the treadmill for another 45 minutes. Rest for 40 minutes; bike ride nine miles to a gym. Work out for two and a half hours. Shower, ride home, eat lunch — typically a grilled skinless chicken breast, a cup of broccoli and 10 spears of asparagus. Rest for an hour. Drive to the gym for another round of exercise.
>If he had not burned enough calories to hit his goal, he went back to the gym after dinner to work out some more. At times, he found himself running around his neighborhood in the dark until his calorie-burn indicator reset to zero at midnight.
>On the day of the weigh-in on the show’s finale, Mr. Cahill and the others dressed carefully to hide the rolls of loose skin that remained, to their surprise and horror, after they had lost weight. They wore compression undergarments to hold it in.
Did no one on that show teach them anything? A pound a day? The fuck?

It's true though. Crash diets that they go through on that show burn what lean mass they had going in. Primarily in their legs to hold up that huge body.
Brayden Martin
literally eating negative mass

to add on to what this guy said, the metabolism slowing down when you lose weight also tends to happen because when you lose weight its just about never going to be 100% fat, so many people end up losing a decent amount of muscle weight as well when they lose weight. muscle burns more calories than fat, and losing muscle means youre burning that much less calories.

Someone needs to make The Biggest Loser but make the contestants do SS. Show the world the glory of a strong cut after a lifetime of bulking.

Don't know why he had to quit his job. Land surveyor here, all you do is walk all day everyday unless you have an office job. Would've been easier to just switch to field work and lift weights after work

they're in it to make money and grab viewers, not to actually help people lose weight and better their lives *cough supersize versus superskinny cough*
