In English we had to write a motivational paper to prepare for finals. Here's mine: I often look in the mirror. Every time I see the same thing. A man looking back. "Look at that guy" I'd say, "he's not going anywhere, he's a loser, a nobody. He's a waste of space." My opinion on this man was based of what others had said about him. I wasn't willing to give him a chance because no one else would. One day I saw him again, just as worn and cold as everyother day of the year. "I don't want to be like him" I said, so I ran looking for a safe haven. I found myself there, at the gym, cliche I know but it was better than nothing. I entered and grabbed what I could carry and began my work. After what seemed like forever I dropped my weights, feeling like atlas dropping the weight of the world off his shoulders. But to my dismay, I had only been holding 5 pounds. I looked up and saw the same man from before, drenched in sweat. "Look at that guy" , I said, "he's giving it everything he's got and he's not going to let anyone tell him he can't... I want to be just like him." So I grabbed those 5 pounds and continued. Soon, the multiplied almost 6 fold. Every time I'd want to give up, I look at the mirror and see him again, "look at him. He's only got one more left. Are you going to let him beat you by one?" And with that I used every ounce of strength I had left to beat him. To my dismay, we had tied. With that my idol became my rival. Every time I'd want to drop the weights and go home, or put down my pen and go to sleep, I'd think of him. "He only has one more rep on his workout, one more paragraph on his essay, are you going to let him beat you by one?" So I pushed through the pain and soreness of my muscles, and cleared through the clouds of writers block, in order to beat that man in the mirror. My name is user and I am that man in the mirror. And you'd better believe that I'm not going to lose by one.
