No more Video Games

Any advice on how to kick a gaming addiction?

>I have over 140 games on steam
>Literally play Dota 2 and EU IV

Any former gaming addicts here? I'm making some decent progress, just wondering if it would be easier to quit cold turkey or bit by bit.

>Just stop pIaying

That's aII there is to it, you stupid faggot.

Getting your numbers up is the most interesting game you can play.

The gaming industry is beyond saving now

Thanks to sjw's and feminists

You're literally a cuck if you still buy video games in 2016

>tfw video games are the cancer of my life

Yeah I'm basically on the verge on /nogames/ now that I've grown up a bit and realize how utterly fucking pointless video games are. Like the list of negativity is endless when it comes to games, and then you try and make a list of positive things and you just end up sounding like a drug fiend looking for any excuse he can to justify his addiction.

Negatives of games
>tremendous waste of money
>developers keep trying to find new ways to charge you more
>games are shipping more and more broken with less and less content while the price increases
>that time spent sitting and pushing buttons could be spent making money, socializing, reading, exercising, cooking, or learning a new hobby
>all that sitting kills your back (yeah, you're fine now, wait till you're in your 30s, then your back will thank you for all that sitting)
>looking at the screen is bad for your eyes

Positives about games
>it's fun!
>it cures my boredom!
>it makes me feel happy!

Positives about drugs
>it's fun!
>it cures my boredom!
>it makes me feel happy!

Gamer junkies. Admit to your disease. Admitting is the first step.

Kinda, he's gonna have to find something else to fill the time though. You can lift/do cardio more, obviously. I'd suggest just diversifying, some movies, some tv, some games, etc.

Just suck dicks, it's the same thing lad!

"I play video games for 8 hours a day. What else am I suppose to do with my life?" - The comment

Those games are pretty slow, try playing them on a treadmill

I'm not disagreeing with you but what do you do instead of games? Other than reading books and shit, which is good, but

watch gay porn

This desu. Play CK2 for hours on my treadmill while watching shit on Netflix. Great way to get in some activity when it's rainy

So let's just assume you work full time. So 8 hours out of your 16 hour day is gone. However, let's assume you get ready in the morning and eat breakfest, and that takes 1 hour. So that leaves you with 7 hours of free time. So at least 90 minutes of that 7 hours should be dedicated to getting ready/going to the gym to lift. Now you have 5 1/2 hours left. And let's just assume for the sake of the argument that where you live it's always dark and rainy outside, so going outside isn't an option. You could read a book for 30minutes - an hour. Try reading every day for 3 months, your ability to string together sentences and just read things off the fly will crease tenfold. So now you have another 4 1/2 hours left to do something. I suppose you'd say "VIDEO GAMES!!", but no. I say GO AND STRETCH. 30 minutes, get a good stretch in. Now you have 4 hours. That 4 hours could be dedicated to you looking for a girlfriend or friends through social media, social get togethers around your city, or through a dating site like PoF or Ashley Madison.

Your life is what you make it. Once you have a social group and girlfriend, you'll find that you WON'T have enough time in your day to do things

install /g/entoo

no, seriously, pick distro, it will be a hassle to play games

I really like making art tho.

Turbo Nerds need to leave my board

>buying older games by based devs makes you a cuck if you do it in 2016

Fuck off with your made up "addictions" you special snowflake.

All but ine if the negatives only apply to hardcore use, casual play every once in a while won't do this.

Also games improve working memory, reaction time, and hand eye coordination.

Bro first step is to remove every single one, I mean all of them, then get someone to change all your passwords and not give them to you. You gotta go cold turkey and t ain't easy, then get off the internet. Do whatever it takes to stay away from your pc, if you have work to do go to a fucking libary, you want to browse Veeky Forums use your phone. It's not easy but it is doable. I've been there, was a addicted to world of Warcraft during my early teens, also been to rehab for various drug habits and its the same fucking principles. All you gotta do is not load a game up under no circumstance. It's not gonna be easy

Install TempleOS instead.

man up and stop

Actually, video games are a legit addiction the same way gambling is. It has withdrawal symptoms and everything. Physcological vs physical addiction... not mutually exclusive

Pretty much. Though my will to play dropped on my own.

I still buy video games but I don't play them. Played the shit out of ds3.

Need to kick my Veeky Forums addiction though

>psychological

Damn I butchered that rq

Used to be "addicted" to video games in high school. It was litterally the only thing I did except school.
The thing that got me out was to start programming my own games. It has the same feeling of "success" and is a great way to kill boredom. But unlike vidyas, it is actually useful and can get you jobs if you get good at it.
So stop playing and start creating!

This

Read 1984, then continue to read books instead of playing videogames

Here is a protip that will make you quit most of vidya - change your computer into shittier one. I used to play Dota 2 tons, 4k hours at least, probably more with smurfs, then reborn came and I had 10FPS, that made me quit.

>have over 100 games on steam
>only play cookie clicker

Just get a girlfriend. Finally escaped beta fagishness recently, and since then the desire to play just isnt there. Sure I pop in FO4 or Forza once in a while, but I no longer feel that constant urge to play every waking moment. I actually get bored, even when my PC/Xbox is right there, it feels so pointless to play it.

Like, why the fuck would I play that when I have a gf

How is this Veeky Forums
I stopped playing games when I realised there was a million things I could be doing that are more productive. Now I just browse aimlessly because I feel guilty if I start playing a game, but I can't find the motivation to actually do the things I should be.

Used to be addicted to LoL back in the day when it was good. Just took me getting a new hobby (anime) to get over it. Now I've lost some of the passion I used to have in anime because of a new hobby (lifting).

>2008+
>being addicted to games

how? games have been absolute trash in the last 8-10 years.

pandering to SJWs

I know I'm forgetting a lot but you get the point. Like shit there is so much that life has to offer. Just have to look.

find a different hobby
or watch anime.
if its something you enjoy, why the fuck are you making yourself stop? Unless you really feel like its very detrimental to your health, then find something else to do.

>Workout 5 days a week on average
>Work at job 10+ hours a day, getting up to 60+ hours a week
>11% BF @ 170lb, have pretty good stats
>Have good body, will get better with more years of training.
>Own 1100 games on Steam, enjoy my time off playing games
>Don't feel bad about being unproductive for a few hours on the weekends playing games.
>Played Dark Souls 3 for 10 hours when I got the stomach flu.

You can have multiple hobbies you know.

Go away Terry

I dunno if I was addicted but i did stay up super late, sometimes all night playing when i was a fat kid. Find other hobbies? How often do you train? Are you into it or are you just interested in the results?

>bashing vidya

Congrats on the vago champ but the two are really unrelated.

Living with the GF of two years and maintaining two full-time jobs atm. Finishing work and coming home to food, sex, a shower, and a game or two of DotA never felt better.

I don't understand this unnecessary bashing of video games. If people are autistic, asocial, social rejects they'll find something, anything, to improve the condition of their isolation (stamp collecting, paint sniffing, any other hobby) and have been doing so long since before gaming became mainstream.

Everything in moderation, people.

This isn't about fitness

It's pretty easy, the real hurdle is kicking Veeky Forums/useless internet browsing

I broke the habit this year. I worked 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, my 7th day was spent with my gains goblin and I got an hour and a half of work out in each day. No time to play, for 4 months. Note: I was fucking exhausted

It's funny how fit seems to think that everything that is not a basic need in life should be banished.

I'm a former gaming addict. I simply lost interest in gaming (recently too. Like, maybe a few months ago). I suppose the secret is, just get other hobbies so you have less time for games, and gradually you won't want to play because games are such huge timesinks that take away from your other activities.

Give me your steam account. I'll change the password and email so you can never use it again.

>3 essays to write
>All due next friday
>If I start playing video games in the morning I know the entire day is going to be wasted

Just have to exercise some self control h-heh

I tried that technique. Just ended up buying a Playstation instead

>that time spent sitting and pushing buttons could be spent making money

Pushing buttons is a very transferable skill, I'm an accountant and a good 90% of my work is done on Excel, it's notable how much quicker I am than others on my team - sometimes it's literally hours quicker.

(What I'm saying is better at navigating a computer = better/more efficient at my job = better pay, but I understand what you meant in your post)

Totally agree with this, my laptop is old, on it's last legs and started overheating during games of LoL, which was the only game I played for hours on end.

The frustration just made me quit, all I play now is Hearthstone on the toilet at work.

Get a real life hobby that you can enjoy.
I also played dota/cs, the appeal to these games are that there is no skillcap. So I got a hobby that has no real 'skillcap', namely juggling and I'm about to learn to play the guitar.
The more I work on other stuff, the less I feel the need to play cs.

Sure, but for OP playing vidya is an obsession, not a hobby

Find another hobby. But yeah it's hard, after you get good Dota 2 is like crack.

RIP

Just play EUIV more. Aim to conquer the whole of Eurasia with Dulkadir. You'll hate gaming soon.

Once you enjoy working on yourself (getting fit, getting a girlfriend/boyfriend, being the best you can in general) you will despise video games. Even when I sometimes want to play something again I just think that it's a waste of my time, and time is all I have aside from my body and brain to work with. So I better spend it shit posting on fit

I want to get into drawing again to git gud

>tfw videogames are just a fun way to unwind and relax after a long day at work/the gym
>Just like movies, TV, books, anime, comics, etc.
>Mfw I see people overcomplicating the subject and treating them as if they're some sort of life controlling drug

What the fuck is wrong with you guys?

replace them with productive hobbies

and Brave New World, too

My love of games has died recently. It will happen to you eventually OP. I don't have 'fun' when i play anymore. It feels so empty

Happened to me a long time ago. Still playing.

Because this is a wapanese socially inept image board that can't handle anything at all in moderation. Video games are probably the crutch of most of these kids so it's better they don't even touch it.

>tfw winding down every other day with a nice mission or two in xcom or a hundred turns in civ

Games I 'have to' play because theyre good or whatever.
I don't even like gaming anymore yet I feel compulsed somehow to finish all of those.

At what age is gaming a no go? I'm 30.

What about internet/computer addiction? I just sit at my computer all day without actually doing anything, just waiting to eat or workout.

If you feel like you "have to" just stop. Do something else and come back later on in your life or just play games you actually want to play. You can be 80 and enjoy it who the fuck cares?

30+

I stopped playing RPG's because you need to put in a lot of work for virtual gold and other stupid shit like that. I do still play games I can play with my friends when we're hanging out or having drinks before heading out, like Rocket League or something.

How can I stop Runescape?

I sit here and I know I waste my time but don't do anything about it. Even if I come off it, I just waste time doing nothing at all.

Tfw 3000 hours so far

> playing manchild babysitting software
Full fucking pleb

Find something else to do.
For me, I always feel like I'm wasting my when I'm playing video games. I'd rather countine coding and learning more about, just feels more rewarding than progressing in a game.

>You're literally a cuck if you still buy video games in 2016
>literally
Do you even know what "literally" means ?
