just watched this documentary called UnSuperSize Me.
I never believed "before and after pics" before. but watching this got me to believe one person actually lost 200 lbs.

I am 35 yr old male. i weigh about 460 at 6'2" tall. i've always been big even at 5 years old. i'm naturally strong due to carrying all this weight around. so i am not looking to be body building like most of the folks on fit. i'm looking to drop the fat once and for all.

considering this vegan diet for health. not the hippie, save the planet bullshit.

But anyway, sugar often has bone char used in the process. I think most vegans use coconut sugar. Nothing is wrong with any of that food listed as long as you eat it in moderation.

i did do the low carb thing twice at 30 day intervals, lost 30 lbs each time.
but given my getting close to 40, i don't think a lot of meat and fat would do well for me.
so i'm really thinking the veganism is the way to go.

The full phrase is usually "whole foods plant based," which means no refined/processed foods. Corn, potatoes, and brown rice don't count as processed foods so could be included in the diet. When they're processed into frosted flakes and potato chips, they're not.

Well if you follow a strict vegan diet (just shitty vegetables, no processed foods of any kind, no meats or meat derivatives, no sugar of any kind, no seasoning except tiny amounts of salt), you WILL lose weight. The principle behind how this works is simple cal in v cal out.

You might feel you're eating a lot still, but most of it will be awful undisgestable fiber, which you'll just shit out. And after a while, you're going to drop the lbs if you stick with it (if go too hard you might suffer some organ damage, lose muscle mass, and go into a depression though, so be careful)

There are many, but one dish I eat just about daily is a big bowl of oats topped with bananas, peanut butter, kiwi, blueberries, avocado, garlic and whatever else I have lying around. It is so delicious.

lol, that combination doesn't happen too often. Like I said, I just include whatever is lying around.

Many of my meals, actually, just involve taking a giant bowl and throwing a bunch of random things into it. I'm not picky (...says the vegan).

Diet soda, lol no Some artificial sweeteners are not that bad (like Stevia), but they aren't exactly healthy. I don't even know what crystal light or propel water is. Gatorade? I sometimes consume these types of beverages during my races, but outside of races or long training runs, I try to avoid all added sugars.

Most of my meals are pretty simple. One of my favorites is just a cup of red lentils simmered with half a yellow onion and a diced carrot or two, then a ton of black pepper cracked on top and a pinch of coarse salt. I started sprinkling on smoked paprika too, that's pretty good.

Personally, I was a milk-and-eggs vegetarian for many years before I slowly transitioned to vegan. The food I missed the most was pizza... but then I learned that vegan pizzas exist. Whoo!

If you plan to eat as much as you want from everything vegan, you'll fail. If you plan to learn a shitload about nutrition, what and how much your body needs, what's not good in higher quantities, make a great variety of plant based meals yourself on that base and never consume vegan junk food it might work.
But it'll also work if you include diary, eggs and meat and watch your calorie intake.

All plants have some protein in them. Eat a lot of food, and you will be fine. Protein deficiency (in the US) is practically non-existent, even among vegans. It is an irrational fear.

You can theoretically lose weight on any diet: vegan, vegetarian, pesca, omni, whatever, since it's about calories and nutrients rather than whether you eat meat or not.

I would recommend lacto-ovo vegetarian before you decide to go full vegan, though.

They were too weak to move their stuff when they moved house (four of them lived together)... So they enlisted me and another guy to move their furniture, because there was no way on earth they'd manage alone.

Vegan for 10 years here.

Drink only water, tea with no sugar or milk, or black coffee with no sugar. Coffee will help stave off hunger for an hour or two and has no calories.

I was lacto-ovo vegetarian for a year before becoming vegan, but I basically ended up eating way more cheese and dairy than I did before I was vegetarian. Not recommended.

If you do decide to follow a plant-based diet, and cut out lots of junk/processed foods, you will definitely lose weight. Most vegetables/fruits/grains are not calorie-dense but are still filling.

The other guys in this thread are basically right though, you just need to eat less calories. Veganism could be a good diet to help you achieve that though. It's harder to bulk on a vegan diet than a 'murican one, pretty sure everyone would agree with me on that.

The only advantage to a vegan diet is that the shakes and food are more fibrous making you feel fuller longer, due to the body taking longer to digest. You could not be vegan and just add extra fiber to your shakes to feel the same affect.
