Hello ,Veeky Forums! I’m 25, 5'4", 160 lb girl with asthma that wants to lose weight and gain a little muscle.
I've always had trouble exercising because of my asthma. It was a lot worse when I was a kid. Now that I’m older, I’ve noticed that I am able to do a lot more than I’ve ever been able to before. I still have it though and it does still flare up if I overexert myself. I am not by any means pure fat. My job is very physical and I have gained quite a bit of strength from it (my title is shipping tech, but I pretty much have to walk around all day and lift boxes up to 30 lbs multiple times daily)
So! Here’s my problem. I signed up for a 24 hour gym membership last year. I’ve gone a few times, but I don’t know what to do when I get there. They have all kinds of equipment, but I usually just end up doing elliptical and treadmill for an hour before I start feeling silly and leave. I work 2nd shift and I’m poor, so hiring a trainer isn’t really an option. I need advice on what I should do given the fact that I’m an asthmatic and a girl.

Controlled asthma shouldn't affect your exercise performance. If you are getting flareups during exercise please visit a specialist. he may add some drugs such as leukotriene receptor antagonist or change your current medication to longer acting ones.

Also, a puff of salbutamol before working out prevents flare-ups.

I promise im not looking for sympathy or anything like that. i just want to better myself and i dont know how to do it. all i want is a little advice on how to get in shape that doesnt push too hard. i understand completely that everything takes time, and im willing to work hard and take my time.

Estimate TDEE / count calories / eat at a ~500 deficit.
Exercice as much as possible, either with cardio if you can, or with weights.

Read the sticky for details on weight programs. But if you're as active as your original post let think, keeping on with cardio, maybe a bit of core work should be okay.
What matters is maintaining a calorie deficit when you eat...

Go to the gym as often as you can and train hard. Don't fuck around. You said you start feeling silly after 1 hour, if that's the case then you didn't work hard enough. After 1 hour of cardio you should be exhausted.

You are a girl, so for you the most important part is to actually loose the fat. You will do that by eating less and doing lots of cardio.

What do you drink? If you drink any soda, starbucks, ... don't touch that shit again. LEARN TO DRINK ONLY WATER (probably the best thing you can do for yourself). Just by doing that you will loose weight.

Try to eat food rich with protein. Protein fills you up way more than carbs or fat. Imagine eating 1 chicken breast and drinking table spoon of oil. Same amount of calories, but one of those 2 will leave you starving.

And embrace the hunger, there is nothing wrong with going a bit hungry to sleep.

Regarding weight lifting. Read the sticky, and learn about different exercises. For example, doing squats and deadlifts (WITH GOOD FORM) 2 times per week will make you look pretty good. Other than that, cardio and diet is way more important for a girl in my opinion.
You could do that without going to the gym tho, try running outside.
