Start doing incline push-ups on a surface which is round waist high. Build your way up till you can do about 20

Try doing negative push ups. Basically it's the part of the exercise where you lower yourself to the ground but you do it as slowly as you can. 5 seconds for each rep is something good to shoot for

My first time in the gym I could only do 2 pathetic pushups.
Now I bench 70 kgs for reps, so it's all about adaption.
