I DO think replacing bench with OHP would broaden appeal and help the nonexistent chances of this sport getting into the Olympics.
At the very least, it would help the Bench Press itself if they reigned in this "Chinese Girl Max Width Gripping, 1/4 inch ROMing" bullshit and didn't actually have a PRESS command mid goddamn lift. If they want a paused bench (which is stupid to begin with, but whatever), just let the lifter himself pause it. That way the instructions from the judge won't differ from meet to meet so much. The rule should be there has to be a noticeable pause at the bottom. Just like in the squat you have to hit depth, but you don't have someone yelling at you when you DO hit depth.

When you say this, I can't help but think you're referring to the sort of elite lifter that has never put much effort at all into overhead lifting because he's busy training for squats, bench presses, and deadlifts. No fucking shit they'd kind of suck at pressing overhead.
If these people had been training a standing press for 15 years, instead of bench press, they'd be getting much bigger numbers.
Though admittedly a standing press would be less relevant the more equipment you're wearing. There's not a whole lot you can do to involve elastic in a standing press like you can with a squat.
Which is why raw powerlifting is the One True Powerlifting, and hyper equipped powerlifting is masturbatory ego lifting hogshit.
Problem with OHP being a competition lift is that people will turn it into an incline press, which will be hard to judge. That's why pressing was removed from WL.
If OHP were to be added I'd add it alongside the BP. That way being a good presser means you can actually get better totals, as both lifts are lighter than SQ and DL. Together they should be about the same as a DL, I think.
