Late game he can be a rebellious dick and fuck up your empire beyond repair but he isn't invincible anymore. The hardest guy I've had to fight over and over is Huang Gai - these days I just execute his ass if I capture him after a battle.

Also if you're familiar with Lui Bei/Kwan Yu/Zhang Fei from Romance of the Three Kingdoms - then you'll appreciate that you can make sworn brothers/sisters out of characters you know very well. One time I ran through the game and became sworn brothers with Lu Bu so he would tear it up all over the place in my name.
