Looking for some advice from any runners

Looking for some advice from any runners.
I started running a few months back and generally have had zero issues with endurance, I don't tend to get winded or have issues with breathing. The one this is that I get pain in my legs nearly every time I jog.

I can't even make it that far, I'll get on a treadmill and after about half a mile at 6mph one of my legs will start aching. The best I've ever managed was 3 miles before the pain became too much. It seems like I can only jog once then take 4 days off to give whichever leg a rest. This shit is ruining any chance of improving since I need to rest 90% of the time. What I don't understand is that I can put on some boots, fully load a pack and go on a 10-15 mile speed march on uneven ground and feel fine, but the instant I get on a treadmill one of my legs will just give up.
I am severely flat footed and wear insoles to help with this but I've never experienced any issues with it when walking or even jogging with a pack and boots.

I went to the Doctor who just said I was flatfooted and to wear insoles and that I should be fine for training otherwise.

Is it just the treadmill doing this?

Hard to say. Might be your running technique or your boots. I run but I'm no expert. I suggest you find one in your local area. Perhaps try the running boots shops? They might advise on the issue and will most likely try to sell you new shoes. Hopefully, in good faith to alleviate the pain.

Ohh, and if you are flatfooted then you'll need to learn how to run with flat feet. No doubt, this will affect how far and fast you can go running. All I can suggest is read up on the problem.

Sorry maybe I wasn't very clear. I use Running shoes for the treadmill but walking boots for walking. When I wear the boots and jog up hills will full kit on I get zero to minimal pain. The instant I put on my running shoes and get on a treadmill I get pain after half a mile or so.
Also I really don't want to visit a Doctor again as I have an Army assessment coming up soon and they get a full medical report and if I go in to complain about knee or leg pain it could ruin my chances of passing.

The running shoes I bought were on the advice of my local running shop (same for the insoles)

If you only have problem with your legs when running, then my first guess would be your shoes as well. The problem might not be your flat footedness (??), but supination/pronation. As the first user suggested, go to a local running shop. They should have some kind of treadmill, or board to stand on where they take pictures/videos and can tell if you have problematic anatomy in your ankles. Be aware that good running shoes will be expensive.

By the sounds of it you either have high arches or fallen arches. Or maybe you're developing shin splints, whatever it is your first step should be to visit a chiropadist or a specialist running store to analyze your walking patrern.

Wrote my answer before you posted yours, please ignore then...

shin splits after half a mile?

Already did that, spent around £200 on the pair I have. I have over pronunciation due to fallen arches if I remember rightly. I've never had an issue with it until recently. I got some insoles after visiting my running store and they helped for a few days then I think I got runners knee as my knee has swollen slightly. What also probably doesn't help is that I am very heavy footed.

I am wondering if it is just the treadmill since I can run around town at a decent pace with near enough zero issues, same for jogging with kit up the downs

Does anyone else get burning shoulder pain when running or am I just completely retarded?

You're probably not relaxing your upper half enough. I made that mistake when I started running, I was very rigid and it caused pain. Just relax.

couldnt sleep last night thanks to aching legs/knees

that's not suppose to happen. i went from never running in my life to running 3 times a week to 2 months later running over 100 miles in one month without any problems in my knees/joints.

i'd say you have a balance issue in your daily life that you've never noticed and it spreads into your running. try and fix that and see.

It doesnt come from running I'm pretty sure. I run twice a week but after every boxing session my fucking legs start aching

STRETCH

Ive seen it happen, some peoples posture is just that bad.

>Heal up
>Buy knee and ankle braces for weakest leg
>Buy insoles
>Put braces on ultra tight
>Go running
>Do this for a week or so
>Take knee brace off
>Do this for a week
>Take ankle support off

That is all you need. What is probably happening is that you're using insoles but your knee is still reacting like your arch isn't supported which can lead to pain until it adjusts, just force it to adjust.

Your indeed need insoles.

I personally never run on treadmills, they have only ever caused leg/ knee pain for me.
Have you ever gone running outdoors? You say you've rucked pretty far, but have you ever gone running on these same trails? Try that out and see if it hurts.

Why the fuck does every running thread feature heel striking? This sets a bad precedent.

> user you shouldn't do that
> but I saw a pic on Veeky Forums
> what is Veeky Forums?

Yeah I've jogged with boots and kit but never running shoes on the trails I use. Never had an issue (beyond the normal pain from going up and down hills on uneven ground). I think I'm going to take another look at my running technique as some anons have suggested and try some outdoor running for awhile.

I seem to be going from injury to injury at the moment using a treadmill.

don't swing your arms too much and don't let your arms cross your chest. focus on your legs and use your arms for balance

anyone have experience with IT band problems?

I ran cross and track for 6 years, never had problems with it. Got back into running a few months ago and after ~3 months of running not too intensely, I suddenly developed very strong pain on the outside of my knee.

Stopped running altogether for 2 weeks, did stretches and exercise to strengthen glutes and thighs (which is supposed to stabilize the IT band). Felt great, zero pain at all when walking or stretching.

Tried running again yesterday, zero pain after 2km. Today went out again, felt twinges of knee pain after maybe 800m, so I stopped immediately.

I really need to get back to running as soon as I can, but I also understand that trying to push through or rush things is the worst mistake to make.

Any advice on recovering, getting rid of this problem?

Do more lateral work, side lunges, clamshells (!?!) to strengthen the Glute Med.
Do lots of core work.
Use a roller.

Idea is to keep your hips as stable as possible for as long as possible.

Thx bro, already doing clamshells, side planks, side leg raises, squats and pistols, hip thrusts. From what I've read, foam roller is for the most part not actually effective for removing the problems that cause it band pain, but just relieves and numbs the pain. But I'll give it a whirl anyway.

Any other advice? Personal stories?
