It has a lot of nasty stuff like phytoestrogens which affect your hormonal balance and anti-nutrients which prevent the absorption of certain minerals and protein among other things. Soy is also linked with gyno and certain types of cancer. When promoting it as a "superfood" they use certain Asian populations as an example of healthy people who have consumed soy for centuries but they overlook the fact that they take it fermented and very sporadically.
The reason they sell soy protein is that it's the residue from soybean oil extraction, so instead of dumping it they sell it to you.

I know it's not a superfood or anything, and I couldn't care less where my food comes from, I mean, the exact same goes for whey, it's a residue from cheese production.

Fermented soy is better. Has a ton of health benefits and is very very good for your gut bacteria. However, it has nothing to do with phytoestrogens. You know, phyto means PLANT, we're not plants, so phytoestrogens don't affect us.
