Ive played sports (mainly football, American that is) so power cleans have been kinda second nature to me since I was young.

I've tried teaching other adults but they're simply never gotten the hang of it.

I look at it in three parts
Deadlift, clean, and front squat

Try what is called hang cleans or half cleans for a while. Then try with just the bar.

The key is to explode from the top of the deadlift, what's called a "triple extension"

Make sure you use rubber weights, and I'd suggest finding a coach in your area.

The clean isn't an explosive deadlift. You have to maintain a very upright torso even in the bottom position in order to generate a powerful triple extension (you are always in a "power position" this way).

You also mention a triple extension but don't make it clear what it is. Is he just supposed to guess? It's an extension at the hip, knee, and ankle FYI. It may be evident to you now that not every clean o snatch needs a triple extension. The more powerful ones do.

A triple extension applies to any sport where you have to run or generate any kind of speed (swimming included) but you can't neglect the negative, or a triple flexion otherwise you end up without decent recovery back into a power position.

I would consider deadlifting the ultimate beta lift.

Must be why I see almost everybody at the gym pull deads with shit form even with light weight.

children can do calisthenics, gymnastics, acrobatics etc. The distinction between adult males and everyone else is in absolute strength.

as long as there's a meaningful measure of that strength like lifting one end of a car then strength wins out over skill.

also acrobatics etc. has very little practical application and is mostly about showing off, whereas if you can lift one end of a car that shows control over your surroundings.

that said people respect skill so it isn't entirely one way or the other.

one-armed chin ups and muscle-ups are impressive if you're heavy.
