Im in national guard Haven't gone to boot camp but I do monthly drill, if you fail the pt test they punish you with more pt, 2 min pushup 2 min situps and 2 mile run within 17 min. I don't mind getting yelled at I don't like the pt nagging tho, all in all its pretty fun.

Pretty cool most the time, held to an above average physical standard.
Once you get past that and land nav graduation rate is pretty easy, they only do what every unit should do which is test you on basic soldiering skills.

I only ever really had an issue with 82nd people, not the young guys. Had a lot of friends over in 82 who were specialist below.
Fucking corporals and sgts though were douche bags for the sake of being so.
In my unit we had specialist as squad leaders or ATLs and often times sgts as team leaders. They have it one step down, can't even be a squad leader until you're an NCO or SPCP.

jul2008-jul2013, 2 long term deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan, 4 supporting missions in Haiti, Korea, Somalia, Qatar.
Technician, job was to go to fobs and fix stuff, that's all I did the entire time deployed. Just grab a helicopter and go to x for 2 months, grab a convoy to y. repeat until my job was done.

I don't know much about the military but yeah, if you have a degree and go in that direction they will consider you valuable and give you a comfy position.

Personally I'm trying to become a police officer and same thing, they'll value the fact that I have a degree and in 4 years I'll make over 100 grand. Anyone in this thread complaining about a boring job needs to realize they're lucky to have one.

Air Force here m8. Since you have your degree talk with a recruiter about commissioning. Don't go enlisted, wayyy less pay. As an officer you won't be in a technical position like a new enlisted would be.

I'm in comm so for the most part not a Veeky Forums job but there are exceptions. Honestly it has been decision for me

This is wrong. You will only become an officer if you go to officer training. Since you have a degree already, that would have to be OCS. You will not be made an officer unless that is in your contract.

The fitness standards are laughable, so you have the definite potential to still be a fat piece of shit. On the other hand, you are typically required to workout 5 times a week, which is often cardio or body weight stuff. At the same time you have free access to pretty well-stocked gyms at any time of the day, so you can always work in your weight lifting.

tl;dr You can be fit in the military if you want to be.

Also, I totally recognize the field from that picture. It is at Eglin AFB in Florida. Spent 9 awesome months there.

The honest answer is, until you reach O-3, officers basically don't do anything. But i'll tell you what, nominally, we do:
Officers plan training and operations, as well as manage the careers of the soldiers in their unit. We dictate the unit'so climate, so we are in control of its general approach to carrying out its duties. We are the leaders, so any shortcomings fall squarely on our shoulders. We are accountable for everything that the unit succeeds or fails to do, so we have to promote a climate in which the mission gets fucking done. This generally means taking care of soldiers, so a good officer is compassionate and empathetic, but also mission-oriented.
It can be very rewarding if you take pride in what you do (which you damn well better if you're an officer)

Fun fact: ~1/5 of all domestic violence can be claimed by military personnel in America.

Mandatory military service here, always lift a lot of heavy stuff around, but it always depends in which 'branch' you're working. Wouldn't recommend it tho (at least not im my country).

I commissioned when I graduated with my DPT cuz needed to repay $60,000 in loans
If you are okay with not being able to make plans, this is the life for you.
You have scheduled work days, and your off days are not sacred as 24/7 on call cuz Military needs > Personal needs, so you could work just 3x 12 hour shifts or you could work 20 days in a row, I've done both - no big deal
Despite regular working hours inpatient at the base hospital, there's 2-3 mandatory meetings and conferences weekly on good weeks, sometimes more. These meetings generally last 2-3 hours.
Want vacation? That's cool, that's really cool. Hope you get it approved and hopefully your request isn't denied after approval and you've already booked tickets.

There are benefits, but I value my autonomy, thus only spent the required 4 years active duty for loan repayment.

I'm an army nurse, being fit is required no matter what component you're in though. I mostly do missions in war zones so I've seen my fair share of bullet wound and IED victims, I've been on humanitarian aid missions as well. I'm leaving for 6 months again in early September.
