How to fix bodybuilding

I think I know how to fix bodybuilding.

So the big complaint is that modern bodybuilders are too big, and that nobody who looked like Frank Zane or Arnold could win today. Mr. Olympia tried to fix this by adding side contests- the 212 competition, which is for competitors under 212 lbs, and the physique competition, which is focused on aesthetics. but the problem is all the short guys enter the 212 contest and they look as fat and ugly as the tall regular Mr. Olympia contestants. And most the physique bodybuilders can't compare to Arnold's size or aesthetics. Another thing is these are just side contests, they're not also eligible for the main Mr. Olympia competition. In the 70s the lightweight and heavyweight mr olympia's competed against each other for the ultimate title.

How to fix it: divide the contest into 3 or 4 BMI classes, not weight classes.

BMI is your height by weight for someone with average muscle to fat ratio, most bodybuilders will be overweight if not obese on the BMI scale, but that doesn't matter. The point is an obese 5' guy will have the same BMI as an obese 7' guy, and their bodies will look similarly proportioned, but weight completely different. Judge similar proportions, not weights.

You have one BMI class for regular weight guys who look like Zyzz and Jeremy Buendia (or even Eugene Sandow), then another class for guys who weigh for for their weight that look like 50s era bodybuilders like Reg Park and Steve Reeves and Joe Weider, then another slightly heavier BMI class for the Arnold and Franco 1970s tier guys, then the heaviest BMI class for modern-type bodybuilders.

Then all four compete against each other for the main championship. That way you'd have to compare and contrast the relative merits of every body type.

thank you, op, for saving bodybuilder

Hey, anytime, and you're fucking welcome, embryo.

No, just remove steroids.

If people have been getting bigger and more disgusting it's because of steroids, normally there's the natural limit but these ugly mofos don't give a shit about it, hence why after the 40s everybody looked like shit.

Natty bbers look like shit. 70s had the best physiques

Bodybuilding is a dying sport and its because the bodies are just ugly looking now. It's not about being asthetic anymore it's about being as big as possible.

Maybe with the recent shift towards powerlifting once everyone loses interest in bodybuilding the sport can really start to shine again.

Nobody wants to go to a comp and see nattys, they want to see freaks. They dont want to look like them, they just want to see em

Arnold looked great and was on the roid

>implying powerfatters don't roid

And yet the freakier the competitors have become the less people have been coming to see them.

>Bodybuilding needs to be fixed
They just added a classic division.

Fuck off, plebeian

well in powerlifting the objective is to be as fat as possible so roudgut doesn't matter. i'd rather that shit not interfere with a sport where looking good is the goal

I guess that settles it then. People definitely don't want to see muscular physiques at bodybuilding events.

Then 100% of competitors will cheat, and EVERYONE will look dyel.

Show me a pre steroid bber that looked good
>inb4 steve reeves at 19% bodyfat

>Remove steroids
You mean, insulin and growth hormone

Kekaroonies

>bodybuilding is a sport
It is freakshow Beauty pageant

Not slin and GH tho

Thats the shit that takes it to that next level mutant look and its one of the main reasons bodybuilders look so different today

GHet huge

/thread

You've done it
You've finally fixed the bodybuilding

That's an idea.
Or just fucking punish competitors with a GH gut.
It would be harsh as fuck, because just about all the modern big names sport a roid gut, it will fuck their careers, and there's really nothing they'll be able to do about it.
It will change everything for the younger bbers, for sure. Everyone will try to find that sweetspot, where you have gotten as much gh as possible, without getting dat gut.

One easy step to fix bodybuilding: Introduce an additional mandatory stomach vacuum pose where you are rated depending on your v-taper.

There, that's all they would have to do. The problem is that ever since Dorian Yates all the fucking competitors thought they had to follow suit with the "mass at every price" bullshit and now it's virtually impossible for the IFBB to do what is necessary because in order to save the sport they would basically have to kick all the current big names like Kai Greene, Phil Heath and so on to the curb.

And that in turn would require the IFBB to risk some short-term backlash and financial loss for the sake of better long-term success and greater mass appeal. Needless to say, they'd rather make big bucks now then think about how the sport is going the way of the dinosaur on its current projectory.
