whey protein is made of curds. AKA "curds and whey". Cheese byproduct.
They skim it off the top of the vat during the curing process, dry it and grind it into a powder.

I bought the brand "22Days" pea-protein powder with chocolate flavor and I love the shit. I love it in my coffee, in my milk, in yogurt, smoothies, and I can even stomach the powder by itself. Even the texture's nice.
