If you cant do pull ups you are weak

if you cant do pull ups you are weak

>anyone can bench/squat.. the weight just changes
>not being able to do a a single clean pullup is like not being able to bench the bar

>mfw can't do more than 6 and I'm struggling on the last rep

I started doing negatives in the hopes that I'll somehow be able to do as many pullups as possible some day. but i'm Weak as shit, so probably not.

once you burn out just practice doing sets of dead hangs.

i can crank out sets of 10 muscle ups (none of that kipping pussy shit)... and i still do dead hangs after my workouts

>every time after 8-10 reps your hands just give up
>one day decide to muster up the courage and do a loaded set
>put on 5kgs (like 10-12 lbs i think)
>get 8-10 reps, then my hands give up, just like when unloaded
>try with 10 kgs/22lbs
>same results
>in a couple of weeks i went from unloaded to a 20kgs/45lbs pl8

what the fuck is going on? I thought it was the grip but if i had a shit grip i shouldn't be able to hold the bar with more weight keeping me down

this depends on the bar

pullups are easier on thin bars

You reckon Eddie Hall could do a single pullup?

progressive overload

If you can do 6 there's no point in doing negatives. Just do 6, rest for 5 minutes, do 6 more, etc. You'll be able to do more in no time. I went from doing 3x6 pullups to 3x8 in just the last 2 weeks.

How much do you weigh tho?

>tfw can't even do one

how do I even begin? i just started lifting a month ago

Start with negatives. I know Scooby is a meme on here but this is a legitimately good progression.

on 13 clean pullups, if I rest a lot and dont do shit I might get to 14. I want to get to 25 though, but that will probably take forever. I am trying to do the russian pullup thing, where you always go to your max is sets of 5. With 5 days of pullups and one day of rest. But shit is hard if you do other sports. So mostly its just to the max once every 2/3 days. I think I am just maintaining it now.

>Eddie Hall
prob not. hes too worried about getting fat

but youd be surprised some of them big boys can do pullups

im 170
kind of irrelevant tho, you should stay proportionally strong

>go to 1:30

Yes.

>Just do 6, rest for 5 minutes, do 6 more, etc.
Are you supposed to be able to do this?
I can do 11 the first set but the second set I'd be lucky to even reach 8, then 6 on the next

I thought this fall-off was normal

How long are you resting? If you rest for 5+ minutes you shouldn't experience that much deterioration. At least, that's been my personal experience. If you are resting that long and still fall off you may just have really poor muscular or cardiovascular endurance.

You're just a manlet

True
Everyone knows this and normies are impressed by pull ups, I rarely see pull ups at my gym yet when a few times when i have been doing pullups some random skeleton that will start doing them at the same bar as me, like "hey I can do them too"
Whatever, its good to motivate people

TIME FOR A SURVEY
no e-statting
no bullshit
we're all anonymous

remember,we're anonymous there's no need to lie.

not same user, but i cam smell your inability to do a clean set of ten pullups all the over the sea

no clue, but i usually do ten reps of 42 kg renegade rows

>heigh,weight
5'5,143

>number of strict,dead hang pullups
20

>weight x reps of seated curls
20 lbs x 15 ???

174 cm
80 kg
10 pull ups 7 chin ups

how come you do less chinups than pullups?
chinups are kind of easier

All kidding aside, I'd kill myself if I couldn't do a single pull up.

it's a matter of habit

Nigga I'm working on it but right now I'm heavier than I can lift, but I agree with you that there are some pleasures in bodyweight exercises, first time I did my first legit clean dip I was so fucking happy.

>6'1", ~190lbs
>21, 4x90lbs weighted
>3x8 @40lbs

First I do couple of heavy sets of pullups (3-5 reps), then I continue with lighter weights (2-3 sets of 6-8 reps) and I finish with couple of sets with bodyweight to failure. If I'm feeling good I do some more work on machines. Otherwise I continue to do some dumbell curls.

>February, couldnt do 1 pullup
>now can do 3x5 full ROM

How long until 3x10?

probably 3-6 months
oh sweet noob gainz

>Like, dumbbell curl?
>why.jpg
because you can curl 3kg and have bigger and more ripped arms than some guy deadlifting 200

6'4" 233 lbs
>down from 262 feels pretty good
7 all the way down straight arm and up
150 lbs Ez bar ~12 reps

How fucking fat do you have to be to be unable to do a pullup? That's day 0 stuff.

>height,weight
173cm, 70kg
>number of strict,dead hang pullups
did 5x4 earlier on with 32kg attached to my belt, haven't tested max pull ups in ages
>weight x reps of seated curls
don't curl

you should always be able to do a single pullup through your life for those survival situations!

memes aside,if someone cant do 5 pullups he's weak and pathetic. pullups are a standard of upper body strength in every army/police/firestation force in the world.

who the fuck on Veeky Forums doesn't do pullups

also reminder you need to go wide to get wide brah

>also reminder you need to go wide to get wide brah
no you dont.you reduce the rom by doing wide grip pullups.
you should mix up the grip if anything.

Don't grind out reps on your first sets. You can do 11 on your first set? Only do 9 or 10. It'll make it easier to keep doing the same reps over numerous sets.

Also, all you guys in here should start weighting your pullups if you're repping. It's usually easier to progress by adding weight than adding reps.

overhand, underhand, or hammer grip for big back?

I'm doing hammer and they're hella fun, but I feel like they won't hit my back correctly.

5'11 178 lbs
15, 3x8 45lbs
10 reps with 25lbs per arm?

He can deadlift 1000+lbs
I think he could do atleast one

>1.86 m, 70 kg
>about 6, more if i go for a neutral/closer grip
>wtf are those, why would you ask that

i started doing pull ups and chin ups lately since i was too weak to them before and now i do about 6-8 sets of variations on pull ups and chin ups at the beggining on every pull day

>Pick something arbitrary that you do
>Nastily accuse everyone who doesn't do it of being inferior
>Feel better about your shitty life I guess

Mental blocks

This

Bro if you can't do pull ups you're weak as fuck.
Are you retarded?
not op

>something arbitrary
pullups are a measure of strength used by schools, police, firemen, athletes and armies all over the world. its not some arbirtrary exercise like pseudoplanche or renegade rows.

The point is OP is choosing something he is good at and then explaining how important it is (confirmation bias). Why anyone would do this to show off on an anonymous sewing forum is a bit embarrassing.

Personally I love pull and chin ups and do them most workouts.

Pull ups certainly are a fantastic exercise but that's not why op picked pull ups to make a thread about. He picked pull ups because he's good at pull ups. Hence, arbitrary.

Anyone who us not fat should be able to do a pull up. If you can't, try for like five days and you'll be able to.

>confirmation bias
you don't have a clue what this means, do you?

overhand for back, underhand for bis is what's commonly prescribed

mix it up anyway, though

Why seated, though? Might as well use your whole body.

If you go to failure then you'll burn out. This is true for every exercise.

>Couldn't do a single Chin up, let alone Pullup when starting to lift the very first time at 60kg
>Gain 30kg and be able to do 7 Pullups with additional 15kg

Feels gut.

cause you cant cheatswing while seated.
seated and elbows immobile = 100% strict

>>height,weight
187cm, 90kg
>>number of strict,dead hang pullups
7 with additional 15kg
>>weight x reps of seated curls
50kgx8

I was a 54 kg skelly in my teenage years and holy fuck, not being able to do a single pullup felt so pathetic. Like, you know you should be able to perform this movement, and you can't move an inch.

Then I got a bar at home, later on went to the gym and now im smashing weighted with ease. Im in a medium sized gym, but still, the only person doing weighted pullups there. Feels good.

Is cheat swing arms or back? Because I've definitely seen guys swinging their arms doing seated DB curls

elbows must be still on the side of the leg,and the weight must go slowly up and slowly down,if there's any swinging its a no rep.if the angle of the upper arm changes it means you cheated a rep.
cheating is mostly front delt and back.

Congratulations, breh. On the road of making it. Also I remember kicking my Veeky Forums friend in the balls while trying to Do Chin ups. Never again I sweared.

>Scooby is a meme
scooby is great

Ok, so if you don't cheat there's no reason to prefer seated over standing

I can't really do a pull-up and I'm kind of a skelly, 147lbs at 5'10. I can do maybe 6 chin-ups.

or you're just fat as fuck

really it should be, if you aren't fucking fat you should be able to do pull ups

How do I work up to my first pull up lads?

I've tried assisted, didn't help
I've tried heavy lat pulldowns, didn't help
I'm currently doing negatives every workout, so far it hasn't helped.

cut until you're 12% bf and do curls.if you're good at curls you're good at pullups.period.

5'10, 155

6

30lbs x 3

no, you're thinking chin ups. pull ups are difficult.

I've never been able to do a lot, but come on, you've got to be in pretty bad shape to not be able to do one.

fatties are butthurt because their relative strength sucks ass. nobody gives a shit if they can squat 200kg if they cant do 5 pullups or run 5k.

Yea it just seems so natural. Just last week I was in a cave (like, it's a family experience, just takes a couple hours, only need flashlight and tennis shoes), and there was a ledge I pulled myself over with my upper body. The idea that there are some people who wouldn't be able to do that in a life or death situation is kind of funny.

just do them every day. trust me it will work

Itt: SKELLiEs and FATTiES debate each other while alpha males like me can do 20+ pull-ups AND deadlift 6 plates.

I've been able to do at least 12 chinups since I was a fat kid.
And I was well over 250lbs then.

OP here
5'8 / 170lb
25 pullups / 12 muscle ups
i dont do curls really. I do barzzz and train jiu jitsu 4-7 times a week

6'0 175
>18 dead hangs
>35x10 curls

not him
6'3 hungry skelleton.
Literally ate nothing but soup and fruits for a while cuz sick
could still do 10 pull ups.

6'3 220lbs
6 full ROM reps

Pretty flabby, if i kost about 15lbs of fat (got to 15% bf) maybe 9?
