Post essential helpful books every man should read

>48 Laws of Power
>The Prince
>Art of War
>Models: Attract Women Through Honesty
>How to Win Friends and Influence People

Other urls found in this thread:

Shit is pointless to read. Just be yourself.

>The Prince
You managing a Princedom?

In relation to al the typical FIT LIT, models, PUA, robert greene, etc. You should try Rich Dad, Poor Dad. If no one ever taught you about money, this is a useful first step.

you need to change yourself only improve it
yeah

*dont need

>Outwitting the Devil
>The Power of Now
>The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius

Be Here Now - Ram Dass

...

>ITT pop psychology that has very little, if any, real-life application

self help books are shit 99% of the time. If you really want to improve yourself, read autobiographies of powerful/successful people and try to map out their actions and philosophies in your notes

>no Finnegans Wake

into the trash it goes

>How to Win Friends and Influence People

it reads like an 80's collection of short stories where being nice paid off

id recommend terry pratchett, iain banks and the expanse. fuck self-help and biographies

Mishima - Sun and Steel
It's actually good literature

Solitary Fitness by Charles Bronson

Fuck off

>examples of the hightest art
>high test art

I am not trolling but How to Win Friends and Influence People is shit. It tells you to be beta, never correct people when they are wrong, doesn't teach you how to be a leader. I recommend:
The art of seduction
33 laws of war
The Prince

>The Prince
I fucking hate this meme. There's little point reading it unless you're interested in Italian history or political theory in general around 1500.

The prince was legit. A foundational work of political theory without a doubt. Taught me to never use mercenaries.

You can still apply the books advice to this modern day life. Did you even read the book? or did you look at how old it is and decide that it's just not good for 21st century?

I'm not reading currynigger shit.

>or did you look at how old it is and decide that it's just not good for 21st century?
lol, no
I read it, and found it fairly meh. What am I really supposed to gain from it? Machiavelli wrote what he did in The Prince because of how fucked the political situation was in Italy at the time. I am not a renaissance Italian prince. It's not even like Machiavelli preached these as a universal guide, he loved a bit of Roman republicanism.

Not a fan of HTWFAIP.

Many of its teachings are about not stirring anybody up, which makes one liked but not that respected.

The good tips are ones that don't sacrifice self respect or dignity.

Oh yeah, anecdotal filtered stories are way better, I mean they could provide motivation I guess

i can recommend 'stumbling on happiness'. its very badly written, but the matter is interessting. it has actually nothing to do with how to be happy, instead it shows biases in thinking we all commit

Is Models really that good? See it everywhere

>tfw half way through Decay of an angel
Even though its obviously translated, I feel like I understand mishima enough to know the real impetus for his attempted coup. He gets me right in the feels

>I am not a Renaissance Italian prince

Compared to the usual shit PUAs put out, yes.
I've probably read most of the books the manosphere suggests you to read and if you compare the principles of each book you'll realise that there is a lot of contradicting/bullshit advice.

I've read most of the shit that gets recommended here regularly, and it's just that - shit. These threads are a que of men where the first is blind, the one in the middle is blind, and the last one is blind as well. Confused and scared autists recommending something they hope will fix them to other confused and scared autists.

If you want to actually find out who you are, what you are, what you're made of, your worth, then the only path to that is lived experience, and the only philosophers that can help you with that would be the faggots that associated themselves with existentialism. Personally, Nietzsche's works should be read first and at least once. Go for the most popular and short ones, like that one compilation of Antichrist and Ecce Homo. When it comes to Nietzsche, they're usually popular for a reason.

Meditations by Marcus Aurelius is GOAT

A frustrated cuck writes a book about dealing with being a frustrated cuck while attributing and reevaluating his weaknesses as strengths in order to keep the noose away from his hands. Thiss is one of those books that keeps getting recommended by people who have never read it, alt-rightists and millenials that think themselves above the common rabble simply because they are too autistic to exert their will.

The Enchiridion is much better, less faggy and served as a basis for the Stoic movement, and is thus much closer to its spirit than the asspains of Marcus Aurelius.

Please no bully

It doesn't say you shouldn't correct people, it says you shouldn't critize them while you do because that won't be effective

My nigga

Aurelius is the shit

stfu faggot

No friend, Aurelius is just shit, and so are you if either of these is true
>"my pseudointellectual millenial buttbuddy said I should read this book omg it's so enlightening"
>"I'm a sad cuck and maybe reading about the suffering of other sad cucks will help me"

Fuck you faggot, take control of the life you're given, fuck morality and virtue, do what you will or die a frustrated slave, just like Aurelius and his ilk.

...

>literarture

>calling out JK Rowling out of all the people you could call out

how much of a neckbeardy edge lord can you be?
thanks for the list of what not to read faggot

Changed my life

not that guy, but there's so much wrong in these sentences I wouldn't even know where to start. You haven't really read it, have you?

I take it the people who say these kinds of books are bullshit are the ones who have never read one and are only parroting other people opinions. You're too lazy or jaded to give it a try and form a real opinion.

I was skeptical at first and still am because it's always a good idea to take things with a grain of salt. Books like these contain great wisdom that can either entertain you or completely change your perception. I'd invite you all to at least try one book that has your attention.

What I've read and currently reading:
>the power of now
>a new earth
>the book
>the way of zen
>the wisdom of insecurity
>power vs force
>steal like an artist
>7 habits of highly effective people
>meditations by Marcus Aurelius
>how to win friends and influence people

Yeah a lot of the titles sound cheesy but you know the saying about don't judge a book by its cover

>fuck morality and virtue

how old are you?

>ayoo fuck marcus aurelius
>marcus aurelius is a cuck for having virtue and morality
>read epictetus instead

You're now aware Epictetus not only talked about, but also lived a virtues life

da fuk?
Aurelius was not a slave and will never be, could never be considered a frustrated slave, nor his ilk.
srs. dude was heroic, not weak.

Steal like an artist is the most useless shit ever m9. Everything I read in it I already knew. I don't understand why anyone would spend money on that, the only things the book says are things we already know

go back to artofmanliness you cringey faggot

Better yet go to TRP-The Red Pill
>inb4 hurr durr MGTOW
at least give it a shot and look at it objectively. Is it really wise to ignore the life experiences of tens of thousands of men who are constantly trying to self improve all the while sharing their knowledge?

underrated

>Art of War

Just stop... STOP recommending this book as an important or good read.. Maybe if you're studying warfare or something... But if you're just reading this simply to better yourself, you're just wasting your time.

It doesn't say don't correct people, it tells you not to get into pointless arguments.

Imagine you're explaining something you just learned about to a group, in the hope that you're being interesting, I mean, it feels good when people think you said something smart, right? Then imagine someone slides in with "well, actually...".

It doesn't matter if they're right or not - you've gone from feeling interesting to feeling foolish and probably defensive. The goal is to make friends and make people like you - therefore pointlessly correcting people in social settings is counterproductive.

I'm not sure what you mean by "doesn't teach you to be a leader". People gravitate to the warm, friendly people who make you feel good, that's the kind of person the book teaches you to be.

It sounds like you have some social issues that could be addressed re-reading the book.

I owned and read this. It's an interesting read but I couldn't with a straight face recommend it to anybody who has access to an actual gym. Some of his nutritional and physiological information is straight-up wrong.

It's not completely shit but the advice seems geared towards people who already have bargaining power but tend to come across as too cold and impersonal. It's of less use to somebody with very little power and influence who wants to work their way up the ladder - being affable isn't in itself all you need to get ahead.

By all means read the book and put it into practice but realise that its not a complete method. There are times where you'll have to intimidate people, or cut them down to size, or go against the grain. But if you're the kind of person who seems to attract conflict then this book could be worth a read.

>He isn't a Renaissance Italian prince

>don't judge a book by its cover

Following your advice I picked up Sweaty Gay For Pay Beefcakes Monthly from my local magazine stand hoping it would contain some knitting patterns or perhaps a stimulating crossword. Unfortunately it turned out to be gay porn. Who could have predicted.

What does correcting people accomplish in a social setting? They're just going to get butthurt and dislike you

anyone have a download for models? couldnt find anything on tpb

considering buying it

...

you must be trollin', that book was incoherent babble

You used one of the worst sites to find any type of media and have given up already?
If you're so young that you can't even googlefu yet I will say that take everything with a grain of salt, the book isn't bad but don't take everything he says as written word, like any other book.
Think about what it says it whether you can truly believe in it or not, and if you are willing to change yourself just for women.

Libgen is where you get your books son.

>mahabharata
lol why

Vedic literature > beta pooinloo literature

>dude just be attractive lmao
There, saved you a couple hours.

This so much. Great fucking book, and great author in general. Read his biography, dude is a prime example of what self-discipline can achieve.

It's a dank 1980s wall street meme that just won't die, as it is eternally perpetuated by non-reading faggots, just like OP.

The Book of Pook

It's essentially a rational guide to being yourself in the presence of women. That may sound like common sense, but a lot of guys get the physique down and then sperg out around girls. The book is free and acts like a mental checklist to hold yourself to until you start actually feeling comfortable talking to women like you would your bros.

Have you read it? The principles can easily be applied to other things than just warfare.

Yes, one of my few forays into chingchong texts. It's frankly not even a very good military text.

>7 habits of highly effective people

BASED. If you want true guidance in life and how to live as a happy effective human, this is your book. It helped me align with what I think is my purpose, and I wake up every day and go after it, and have never been happier.

Why don't you think it's a good military text?

When you take into consideration that the book is about 2500 years old and the principles still apply to this day, the meticulous organization of the book into chapters which gives a nice overview of military strategy - i'll say it's pretty damned good.

There's a reason why it's still being read to this day. And no, it isn't because of "wall street memes".

Like most chingchong literature its a mix of aphoristic platitudes and common sense advice any 12 year old with normal IQ would figure out.

Clausewitz is a better technical reference while writings like those of Julius Caesar or the letters of Augustus are better grand strategy pieces.

If you want to get to the next level, read "The Management of Savagery", "The Myth of Delusion", Khomeini and Dugin.

Did you watch gladiator and think it was a biopic? Mrcus was born a rich noble and later became one of the most successful emperors of Rome.

This isn't just "common sense advice any 12 year old" could figure out, the principles from The Art of War have been employed by numerous generals in war with great succes, if it would be easy to figure out these principles, why did other generals fall for the ploys found in the book? There must obviously be more to it than initally thought - what seems obvious often is overlooked in daily life. Maybe that is why Clausewitz' On War actually have a lot of the same principles as The Art of War? Maybe it is because there is a lot of timeless truth in The Art of War.

To be fair I don't think you give the book the credit it deserves because you want to come off as "well-read".

These "self help" books only work if you're already a fucking moron or easily swayed.

Can you imagine someone like Plato reading "How to win friends and influence people"...? Lmao.

As if he hadn't already thought of everything that's written in it, as an afterthought or maybe just during lunch on a random Tuesday.
Read some proper literature, you fucking idiots.

It's the same with the whole "redpill" shit too. If you really need a book or forum to teach you that, then it's already too late for you.

How to be an effective shitposter by Arthur Schopenhauer

coolhaus.de/art-of-controversy/

Nigga, Marcus Aurelius ran and expand it the best empire to ever exist. How the fuck can he a cuck?

>coolhaus.de/art-of-controversy/

my man, just doing a work about the influence of schopenhauer on wittgenstein right now. Shit's god-tier interesting.

I believe it was geared towards people in sales.

He may have been an even greater shitposter than Socrates himself quite frankly.

I know you're memeing as hard as you can, but Meditations is one of the manliest works of literature in existence

FUCKING THIS

Bill Gates didn't need motivational speeches to study 30 hours straight.

Diogenes and his Cynic buddies still win though

You can apply those principles from art of war to everyday life.

An intelligent person is able to take information and apply it outside of the box.

A non intelligent person will do nothing with that same information and only mark it as useles.

You sound a lot like the latter.

I hate idiots who trashtalk books and suggest reading the 'real' thing, like Plato and Nietzsche.
Philosophy is is probably the most pretentious category compared to its value. Grown men thinking instead of doing.
I prefer to read books based on studies and experience written after our world rapidly changed due to technological progress.
So please shut the fuck up.

The two aren't mutually exclusive

you could read both but for what the guys in the thread are looking for its probably best to read the modern stuff

Thank god I read it at the bookstore.

The point is that the ideas are very simple and seem very obvious, but the point is to remember then because human beings are very irrational people. The ideas presented in the book are logical, and not everyone thinks logically all the time, people move on gut feelings and emotions.

Except Bill Gates does read books. Even the kind recommended in this thread.

Lmao yep, I read that 48 Laws of Power shit; so much fucking filler.
>Law 2: Never put too much trust in friends.
>Law 3: Conceal your intentions.
>Law 5: So much depends on reputation.
>Law 7: Get others to do the work for you
etc.

How anyone finds these generic bromides insightful or illuminating has to be pretty retarded. Oh, and don't forget the cherry-picked historical anecdote that totally validates every platitude!

The entire book is wank for edgelords who like to feel like they're on their way to being master manipulators. I actually came across one of these losers in real life; he was on the philosophy club committee at my uni, and he thought he had everybody completely under his influence. The trouble was, he was so hamfisted and heavy-handed about his master manipulation methods that everybody could see right through him and just despised him.
I imagine anyone who takes these kinds of books as instruction manuals are of the exact ilk.

And Im neither Plato or Bill gates. Im just a loser user on a board for nerds and troubled people. So are you.

Why would anyone want to manipulate someone else though?

Do people literally think like that? I find it hard to believe because I could never go around thinking "how can I screw this guy over" or "how can I get what I want out of this person."

No one can ever take you down!

Definitely a good thing to be aware of what others might be thinking. You will be harmed by others if you aren't aware they might be trying to screw you over. No reason in walking around naive.

I'm from a country with a general high degree of trust between countrymen, so I don't think about it too much when i meet new people. But you bet there are malicious people out there that will use you if they spot a sucker.

Kek so are you on the same level as Plato then edge lord?

These books are all evil. Choose carefully if you want to live the life of a psychopath. Think of psychopaths you know, and tell me honestly if you want to be like them, and affect other people in the same way they do.

I agree, although it's helpful to go over it's rules to help you consider all of the sides to a coin... I think. I've never used it, but then again I haven't done hardcore biznz yet.

Reading 48 laws right now, I like it. The ultimate message is to use calculated strategy to reach your goals.

Alright Veeky Forums here's a real list

The Picture of Dorian Gray
The Alchemist
Das Kapital

>Das Kapital
A book for cucks who want everything for free and steal other people's success

And yet it completely knocked the history of the last 100 years off it's feet, so you should read it and be familiar with it.
