What kind of grip do you use very narrow to the point where your fingers are in the edge of the smooth portion of the barbell or wide near the rings?

Also I've noticed shorter people tend to OHP more because of less rom that's why I asked for heights

Ohp max ~130
Been lifting on and off for 3 years. Something always comes up when I'm reaching 1/2/3/4 so I have to stop lifting

Right were the grooves start.

How do I set a 1RM? Like, is there an "official" way? Or you just lift some weight you never lifted before and say, whew that's my pr?

Getting on for 8 months liftan.

Yeah, you have to call the national institute of standards to make sure your elbows are fully extended and you don't bend your knees or your heels leave the ground.

Everyone that works there is super cool.
Call them at 9048675309.
Make sure you call at least a week in advance to schedule it.

Is it ok if I call 5 day prior? Can't wait 7 days for that

205lbs 5'10 almost 5 years training.
1RM is 90kg/just under 200lbs.
So close to BW.
Currently cutting so if I can maintain that 1RM then it will be a BW press soon.

don't have proof, but heres a video of me deadlifting 200kg for 5

Haven't lifted in months and have been doing strength based calisthenics for a while now.

I know they look small. This sounds like an excuse but its mainly because I have really high insertions on the vastus lateralis head of my quads. Meaning they get hidden by anything but the shortest of shorts.
I can squat 150kg for 5 so they aren't too bad.

And yeah, fucking no awareness some of the guys at my gym. Same thing happened yesterday when I was about to pull the first rep of a PR attempt.

Cheer up user 155 for reps isn't bad

Itt: people post their ohp max and boast or feel insecure when in reality high rep lower weight is ideal for the deltoid and surrounding muscles of shoulder and all of our ohp is gonna be realitlvley close due to the hard progression of ohp.

Been training for 4 years. This year I started doing the Hepburn routine. I think doing low rep for lots of sets to accumulate volume is key for the OHP.

5'10
weigh 177
OHP: 150

I have a wider grip where my fingers are a thumb's distance from where the bar goes from rough to smooth

to be fair, that was nowhere near a strict ohp

I remember seeing a while back records (from a pre steroids era) and the strict press winners were putting up like 300 lbs

Question: is it bad if I OHP with curl bars?

My gym only has two squat racks, so I've been using weights that look like pic related.

Weigh 200
Ohp 220
5 10 height

The best I got to was about 110 when I was 140lb (skeleton)

Is this any good? Since then I havent been lifting seriously and now my 1rm is probably 100

4 years but stopped twice for ~6 months due to broken bones unrelated to lifting. Been lifting for 1.5 years now since last injury. What do I win?

My gym only has one squat rack and I still press in it, because it's filled with retards who don't know how to squat. Also you can easily clean the baby weight you start with.

No, why the fuck would it be bad to OHP curl bars? They're bars.

The only issue is that they tend to cap out at a pretty low weight.

Don't mind the weight since I'm weak, but just wondering if the thickness of the bar had anything to do with a proper OHP or if it would hurt my hands or something.

>Just finished doing 6 reps of a pl8 in OHP for the first time
>Feels so good.jpg

One day at a time I guess

23yo, Bw 80kgs

50kgsx5
Estimated 1RM is 60 kgs or 132lbs

Started doing OHP 1 month ago, along with DL.

Nah, it doesn't matter that much. For pulling it would.

For a press (both OH and bench) you should try to get the bar more in the heel of your palm anyway, which makes the thickness even less noticeable. There's a famous youtube video we used to link to all the fucking time that goes over this... forgot the dude though. Anyone have it?

Not sure how your gym's straight bars are, but mine are pretty close to the real bars anyway. You may find the knurling annoying as it will most definitely be different spacing from your gym's barbells, but this problem exists with various brands/types of barbells anyway.
