Mating is just a passing of information through DNA/RNA. Everything about yourself is predetermined when that information comes together - how that information reacts to its environment can have a set impact (how you react to your environment) which means yes the information passed from your father will have an impact on who you are.
People like to believe they have free will over who they are but they do not. Time is also already all played out, if we were in the 4th dimension it is likely we would be able to walk through time like we walk through 3D space.
Everything set to happen will happen and has already happened. Who you are is determined by the information in your DNA/RNA, how you react to any environment you are placed in will be attributed to that information. When human beings are smart enough to build machines that can do math equations in 4D more shit will start making sense.
As for the whole beta/alpha shit I would argue that you would be better focused on being who you are and what your own wants/desires are instead of caring so much about who can fluff out their chest the most. Where you end up on the social hierarchy will depend largely on luck and how hard you worked.
