Unless you're doing close grip bench, it should be wide enough so that when you touch your chest your forearms are perpendicular to the bar/floor. You'll get the most power out of your bench here. Please note, this literally applies to everyone, no matter if you're a powerlifter or not.
Wide/narrow enough so that your forearms are perpendicular to the floor during lockout when looking from your balls
but then how much to tuck elbows? there's more than one parameter affecting when your forearms are straight than grip width
TFW BEEN GOING WAY TOO WIDE ALL THIS TIME

I prefer ring fingers on rings. I'm tall so my bench is tricep heavy.
I was taught to do an incline push up on the bar in the rack before lying down underneath it. Whatever grip wideness you naturally take during that push up is how you should bench
