Running shoes have a lot more soft cushioning in the soles, which is easily compressed. You want a rigid flat surface for squats. Run in shoes throe the balance off by having a compressible sole. At his weights, it's negligible, but past the 2.5pl8 area, it can be a big risk factor

For athletes exercise is a complement. It's more important in football or rugby or sports like that but in soccer all they care about is sprinting down the field without getting tired.

Squatting will not teach you kicking technique and it will fatigue your legs. These are also spoiled millionaires who may even object to doing heavy squats.
