Number of sets is more important than reps, by far.
Maybe the calves have some magic that makes them grow more at 15+ reps. Maybe they don't. Do whichever you like doing and do a lot of sets of it.
Aim for like 6-9 total, separating in two calves exercises or more.

You're supposed to find whether you do best with conventional or sumo, but if you can't sumo, do another deadlift variation. SLDL, snatch-grip, block pulls, deficits etc etc.
