relevant to me: my left adductor cramped last night, painful enough to wake me up, and has been bothering me enough all day for me to think it might be a proper injury, although the goblet squats I did at the end of my session today loosened things up really nicely and significantly reduced the pain and tenderness.

I don't know, I don't really pay much attention to that stuff because it's never personally affected me

also if I only bench 135 lbs for reps, squat 190 and deadlift 235 is there probably still room for noob gains/daily progression? I switched from SL 5x5 because 5x5 volume on squats started to feel super fucking hard and ended up taking a long time due to extended rest periods but I feel like I could be progressing faster than weekly progression at barely a novice level. Should I do something like Starting Strength instead?

Doing 3x5 is fine, and should be done. Rest periods can get pretty long towards the end. When I was at the end of LP, I was resting 10 minutes between sets. Get some extra upper body volume from accessories though.

Sorry I forgot to clarify that I switched from SL 5x5 to Candito's LP, that's the specific program with weekly progression. Basically SL >> Candito's LP >> (Possibly SS)

I'm not sold on this one. The relevant rule is "The lifter shall face the front of the platform with the bar laid horizontally in front of the lifters feet, gripped with an optional grip in both hands and lifted until the lifter is standing erect"

The word gripped refers to the bar so if the plates were gripped I think it would be likely for a referee to say you didn't grip the bar.

I would like to see a wide grip sumo however.

Shear forces are a pretty good way of crippling yourself, so maybe thats what he was going for.

It might not be bad if he has a neutral back as that reduces shear by like 10x. Or if he doesn't do this often and doesn't deadlift frequently.

Though with shear forces of over 2k N, maybe 2.5k+ N for lifters, he's at risk of injury regardless of fatigue, as that's the average failing load for humans.

And on pic related you can see that just flexed deadlift can go to 1.9k N easily. Adding lateral shear to on top of that... wew lad

I literally never have met anyone training for powerlifting for more than a couple years who isn't totaling at least 1000 pounds.

With the exception of one guy I know who is bench only because he basically has polio in his legs.

If someone is a healthy male above the age of 16 or 17 and has been training for a year and can't hit a thousand pounds needs to seriously consider rock collecting but they might want to hire somebody to help them pick up the Rocks because that sounds like it's too heavy.
