what do i use instead

You squat.

i squat more than all other lifts put together

do people make fun of me when i lift with an empty bar?
i cant see them

You have to start somewhere idiot, keep using the bech guys.

Bodyweight until you can do handstand push up.

You start with fucking pushups.

If you can't even bench press your own bodyweight, you're using up valuble oxygen around the bench.

Why even bother? What do you think you're accomplishing with that?

>you're using up valuble oxygen around the bench.

and the bench.

'no'

i think im exercising so i can progress gradually

>stop working out if you're not already strong
>stop dieting if you're fat
>stop doing cardio if you have low cardiovascular endurance
I started benching when I could barely bench half my body weight. Now I can bench 1.5x.

No. I maxed 55 pounds when I started lifting, can now rep 2pl8. Every big guy in the gym was either weak or fat when he started, only insecure lifters are going to mock a beginner. I don't even notice the DYELs, I only notice when there's some big guy going for 4pl8s.

This is only valid for manlets.

what if i weigh 450lbs

If I can do a push-up, why can't I bench my bodyweight?

You can. Try it. Just make sure you don't warm up though, don't want to lose any energy.

Because you don't move your whole bodyweight full ROM even in a strict pushup

>i squat more than all other lifts put together
do you just not do diddlies?

That makes you a powerlifter.

>pushing maybe 25% to 50% of your body weight means you should be able to push 100% of your body weight.

All the push-ups in the world won't make you strong enough to bench press your bodyweight.

>Inb4 weighted push-ups
Why bother when you can just bench? There's no benefit.

Should I expect to reach being able to bench my 2pl8 / 225lbs while I'm on my first cut as a lifting newbie?

I don't attempt 1rep max but last time I benched, i reach 175 2-4 reps but I fluctuate. Started just benching 1pl8 10 reps.

I'm currently 204lbs btw.

this is now an YLYL thread

I would guess yes. I cut down to 175 from 198 and was still able to hit 225 for 1 on a few occasions.

"on each bend the angle at the elbows must reach 90 degrees or less"

not one single fucking time did that happen during the entire video

Yes I'm sure about that. Not going to bother opening that video.

Of course you won't. It might prove you wrong.

IIRC push-up is equal to roughly 60℅ of body weight

i'm in love with you please marry me no homo

oh wow
this thread is full of shit

What do handstand push ups have to do with progressing from just push ups immediately to body weight bench press? If anything a handstand push up is more like an OHP. Please explain your logic here.

reminder that most people just look over at people who are lifting less than them as a motivator to see how far they themselves have come, no real put down or insults implied

soon you'll be looking at people who were in your place once while pushing 1 pl8, 2 pl8 etc and it will make you push yourself further

And it's more like a 60% bw bench on the smith machine. The floor isn't moving so you don't use any of the stabilizer muscles you do free weight benching.
