Good luck, OP. Only decent gyms I know of in Tokyo are Gold's and they're somewhere around $100 per month. Anything cheaper and you're basically just paying for access to treadmills. I've heard there are some public (pay per visit) gyms that are decent so you could look into that too.

I've tried OP, but you're shit out of luck. If you're going to be staying long term it's better to just buy your own equipment. I've bought this equipment over the years:

>Barbell, 70,000 yen
>Plates, about 200kg worth, 50,000 yen
>Pull-up bar/dip station, 15,000 yen
>Squat stands, 10,000 yen
>Bench (just put it under the squat stands for bench press), 8,000 yen

Work out for 24 months and that's about 6,300 yen a month of value. They have a Gold's in Tokyo but it'll cost like 15,000 yen minimum.
