Why does this thing exist?

Why does this thing exist?

Sometimes I just don't feel like squatting

Rich Piana says it's better for your knees.

I find it to be a pretty good accessory for quads

Daily reminder a famous and successful bodybuilder rarely, rarely did back squats....

Said it wasn't worth the chance for injury.

>what was his name again ?

More important question:

Why does op exist?

It exists so idiots that don't understand mechanical advantage will feel strong.

Sled press?
Dunno but it looks cool doesn't it?

So dipshits can horde all the plates and feel stronk

This.

for people who don't want to crippled at 40

probably the most comfortable piece of gym equipment ive ever sat in.

also like to pretend its a spaceship

Agreed.

Isn't it better to do leg press than squat if you have an injured back?

is this meme true? is that why Kali muscle/ rich piana/Scooby never does bench press or squats?

I never see old people squat/bench/deadlift, are boddyweight and machines superior?

For people with shitty hips.

>just front squat
>just hack squat

I still want to work my quads but refuse to look autistic by squatting above parallel since I can't bend my knee very far.

of course it's true. squats will destroy your knees and lower back. we just don't feel it because we're young

the only reason to do squats over leg press is if you're training for a competition or some shit

Ok, i see. But I'm looking for a beginner program, and everything seems to involve squats and deadlifts?

Jason Blaha's Ice Cream Fitness/Starting Strength/Strong Lifts, they all include squats, so what's a good alternative?

No. It still puts pressure on your spine.

I have a bad lower back and squats puts too much pressure on it. This paired with legs extensions/curls, weighted luges, and the vag cruncher give me a pretty good leg workout.

To work your legs.

I like to pretend it's a mecha and I'm the pilot so I do robot sounds when I use it.

Don't listen to that dipshit. Anyone on Veeky Forums who makes blanket statements dismissing squat and DL is just trolling you. If you don't have a medical reason not to do them you should but you have have have to prioritize form and mobility/flexibility over ego lifting. Not only will you get stronger you'll get more limber as well. There's no 100% replacement for squats and deads.

FACE IT: Freebar squats are the most DANGEROUS training you can do. You're literally putting hundreds of pounds, perhaps several times your TOTAL BODYWEIGHT, on your SHOULDERS, then dropping your ass almost all the way to the ground and then trying to stand all the way up again. What makes you think our spines evolved to do this? What makes you think this is in ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM "SMART"?

If you do squats you are DUMB, and likely a teenage boy, who still thinks you have to make everything as dangerous, difficult, painful, and DRAMATIC as possible, because you're SO INSECURE about your place in the 'pecking order' that you feel you HAVE to 'prove' yourself -- AND THAT IS WHAT YOU'RE DOING: TRYING TO IMPRESS PEOPLE (and yourselves) WITH HOW 'MANLY' YOU ARE. It has little to do with 'fitness' or 'strength' or even the 'aesthetics' of your bodies, it has to do with IMPRESSING OTHER PEOPLE.

Fucking grow up. You're not impressing anyone who matters, you're just showing the world how DUMB you can be.

>What makes you think our spines evolved to do this?

Why do babies always do it? Why is pooping squatted down the best way to poop?

Don't listen to ^^^THIS^^^ dipshit. Unless you have a legitimate ATHLETIC reason to do squats and deadlifts, YOU ARE JUST FEEDING YOUR OWN EGO AT THE EXPENSE OF RISK OF SEVERE INJURY. All you have to do is get hurt bad ONCE and it's all over for you. Just don't do it.

>pooping
Who's the babby here, really?
>not me, it's (You)
Also you don't shit with hundreds of pounds across your shoulders, IDIOT.
Also Underage B& like you should LEAVE.

You can get just as strong with leg press and other machines as you can with squats and deadlifts, and with a fraction of the risk of injury. It just takes a little longer is all. Of course it doesn't look as impressive when you're doing it -- and I know damned well that's at least half the motivation for all of you to do squats and deads: You want to impress others.

Just stop. Try thinking in the long term instead of the short term.

For testing pilots on their ability to operate rudder pedals at high Gs.

I am 34 with a home gym. I tweaked my back on squats/deads and want to change my lower body workout. I am currently doing sumo deadlifts because that doesn't bother my back, but am looking for other ideas to better round out lower body day. What are the best exercises for this given my home gym limitation?

>I tweaked my back on squats/deads and want to change my lower body workout.
Guess what? You're in the MINORITY that actually admit you got hurt doing squats and deads -- but there are many more than you who did get hurt, and won't admit it here because they don't want to take the abuse they'll get for admitting they got hurt.

Squats and deads are all about EGO and less about FITNESS and STRENGTH.

This guy is right: Admit it, to yourselves, if not in a comment.

Oh, I'm sure you poop with 2.5x bodyweight loaded on your back.

squatting is impossible for people with back problems like scoliosis. This machine is like a wheel chair for squatting.

He probably POOPS 2.5x his bodyweight every day -- because he's FULL OF SHIT.

literally just do legpress and some exercise for glutes

if someone seriously believes you cant make gains without squats they are autistic beyond belief. If they don't know how to exhaust their leg muscles without squats they should just kill themself.

On my leg day I do leg press, lunges, glute machine, more leg press and calf raises. UH OH I DIDN'T DO SQUATS SO GUESS IT WAS ALL FOR NOTHING

If you use a 45 degree leg press with an adjustable backrest, and put the backrest up as far as it will go, then do presses with your knees down as close to your chest as possible with your feet farther up on the platform, it'll work posterior chain much much more than you might think it would.

There is no reason for you not to be able to squat your bodyweight and deadlift 2x your bodyweight, more than that you can argue that it's not necessary but to say that a beginner shouldn't squat or deadlift is retarded. Doing squats and deadlifts with proper form and not ego lifting with bad form has more advantages than disadvantages

>not recognizing a troll when you see one
That guy cited Blaha. He's a Veeky Forumsizen and you swallowed the bait like a broke chick on Amateur Allure.

Uhm...that did not at all answer my question, user. I don't care about your agenda, just looking for good lower body exercises for home gym?

I have tried this and you are correct, but it's really awkward to get situated in that position.
Any recommendations for glute isolations?

db lunges/squats variations, glute bridges or hip thrusts, front squats if you can handle them, uphill sprints and mountain biking are good too.

You can get a good leg workout without squats/deadlifts it just requires more time and volume with lighter weights

> Tore iliopsoas playing soccer
> Debilitating pain and no stability "in the hole" on squats
> Can't squat 20 kg without pain

Used to hate on the leg press but it's the only way I have kept my legs in any shape at all.

Also, OHP bothers my back just as much, if not more.

roids are superior

Daily reminder that Yates heavily used steroids and even gives out his cycling plan

So Ronnie Coleman can put 2000 lbs on his legs

I use it because I have a bad ankle that screws up my ability to balance through a full range of motion squat. It is either do leg press or don't squat low enough.

roids

I begin all mt leg days with three motions:
Leg Press (pic related): 5 Sets, extended hypertrophy style
Goblet Squats: 4-5 Sets, standard hypert
Front Squats: 3 Sets, ATG style

Fuck back squats

ok first of all, he's obviously trolling. second, our ancestors rarely did weighted squats. the closest they came would be to walk while carrying something heavy, or walking a steep incline, neither of which are comparable to modern squats.

Had an uncomfortable feeling around these things since I saw that webm of the guy whose legs caved in as it started to come down again.

His knee caps were touching his ass.

So that the squat rack isn't taken up by morons

>That guy cited Blaha. He's a Veeky Forumsizen and you swallowed the bait like a broke chick on Amateur Allure.
No, i have just been lurking for 3 months without lifting working on my mobility and trying to find a program, please don't make assumptions like that,

What makes you think our bodies were designed to lift anything but bodyweight?
Squatting doesn't cause spinal damage unless you squat like a fucking moron and let your spine come forward.

Go back to /bwg/ DYEL

PornJew detected.

the machines work well. if there's no glute machines then do hip thrusts

To warm up for squats

To break bitches legs

For people too lazy to do squats.

I use it if the squat racks are taken and I don't feel like waiting.

For older bodylifters who fucked up their backs and joints lifting heavy in the 70s-90s. Seriously though I've seen older guys at golds bigger than most of us here that can only do legs on machines like. Kinda feel bad for most of em

>hack squatting irl
Literally autistic

it puts unnecessary strain on your spinal ligaments and discs.

Oh, well fuck literally anyone else in the industry including Arnie, Coleman and Tom Platz the leg Boy who still squat even though this superior meathead who tore his bicep more than once doing his own stupid rows advocates against squatting.

Yeah because these fucking idiots would really worry about that.
They are walking drug lockers, why would you give a shit about their opinion on anything? They won't need their legs anyway when they're dead at 50

Yeah, and that chick too, I'll rather get crushed under a barbell than by a sled that looks like it's supposed to kill you

"Some people's joints articulate in a manner that allows them to benefit greatly from squats; others may not benefit at all. If you're not too tall and have short limbs, it may be the best exercise for you, but if you're tall with long legs, it might be both ineffective and dangerous.I was stubbornly faithful to squats for years until I finally realized they were not well-suited for my body structure. After I switched tomore muscle-intensive movements, my gains in leg size were astounding."

True

Squats are the most overrated leg exercise especially if you're a taller guy with non-asian genetics

Oh fuck I can't wait until leg day.

>lankets complaining about muh genetics
