So why does Veeky Forums hate it? Is it just a meme hate? Or is it just the sterotypes you hate? Help me understand

Memes aside crossfit is universally looked down upon because it's aim is overambitious.

Crossfit idealizes being as strong as a powerlifter, while being as flexible and nimble as a gymnast, while looking like a bodybuilder and whatever other extreme they want to be.

The truth is you can be proficient in one of these areas, and only decent at best in others. While trying to aim for everything you ultimately becoming good at nothing.

isnt being average across the board in some ways better than being great in one area and horrible in the others?

Memes aside crossfit is one of the better normie workout programs

No.

Depends where your passions lie, but you can make a lot more progress faster, and look a lot better aesthically (which let's be honest is all we care about here) by sticking to a decent bodybuilding routine.

Because most boxes don't really use any sort of periodized programming, opting for WODs instead.
Might be ok for normies and soccer moms but not great if you actually want to get really good.

But you can't become ottermode though bodybuilding and that's what I want.

This image reminds me something ole' Randy would say.

The top crossfit athletes don't even do crossfit to prepare for the contests.

Bullshit

crossfit emphasizes and glorifies really high reps

kipping cheating pull-ups until the skin on your hand rubs off

lack of proper weightlifting coaching and emphasis on high reps lead to bad form which leads to a lot of crossfitters looking like idiots

>obviously never been to crossfit

Nobody at crossfit tries to make a kipping pullup to be a replacement to a strict pull-up. A kipping pull-up is considered a gymnastic move (the whole rhythm of swinging your body into the position) while a strict pull-up is considered a strength movement. At my crossfit we do both and both have a very different role.

I attend a crossfit class in my PL gym for free occasionally just for some conditioning work. It's good for that, but not much else.

It's looked down on because it's a fucking cult for stupid idiots.
It leads to life long injuries that will make their later years a hell and ridiculous exercise ideologies that will inevitably lead to life long injuries, getting crippled and even death. No I'm not making this shit up.

Crossfit isn't a workout program, it's a sport. And it has some of the highest injury statistics of any sport because the progenitors based thier theory on "constant variation of high intensity functional movements."

So the flaw in the basic design leads to higher than normal injury rates.

If you're already practising good form and want to add in some pre-programmed conditioning work, crossfit will meet your needs. But if you're new, or getting back up off the couch, it's a recipe for snap-city.

What exactly is the snap meme I see everywhere?

what the fuck is gymnastic moves

This
I've seen more injuries among crossfitfags in the short time it's been popular than I've seen throughout the history of bodybuilding

R8 my crossfit workout.

Jujimufu has all those abilities but doesnt do crossfit checkmate

Translate this pls

>EMOM 10mins 3x 60%

Wtf are those acrynoms? Why the fuck are you doing squats instead of real squats?

It's the warmup so it's nothing serious like actual weightlifting.

>every minute on the minute do 3 reps at 60% of your may

So minute 0-1 do 3 reps
1-2 do 3 reps
And so on until minute 10

>"you can't reach X muscular proportions+levels with the most customizable and efficient training method possible"

??

is that the guy with the blatantly obvious hgh gut

>30 reps of pushpress

lol wat the fuck you should never do more than like 15 reps

>tfw not working out to fail
>tfw not doing hundreds of reps

This isn't a crossfit workout.

Most of /fit is too autistic to work out in a social situation. Crossfit is also great for general health while /fit places emphasis on looks. Add in the crazy cult culture some gyms have, and again most here are too autist to join in on, and you get why it's not appreciated.

I don't think you fully understand how stupid what you're saying is.
Yes we have the handful of SS shills and the creeps and creepettes who're pushing "aesthetics" and "steroids as a woman are you aren't working out". But there's really nothing like what is going on with Crossfit.

What do you mean SS shills?

>being social while working out
This is retarded, if you want to be social go somewhere it's acceptable, I don't want to hear about your life while I'm lifting.

I would never do crossfit because i like doing my own thing and dont like risk of injuries but i have seen people get incredibly strong and aesthetic in relatively low time because of crossfit, nattys btw.

>So why does Veeky Forums hate it?
Crossfit hate is 10% valid criticism, 40% memes, and 50% annoyance at crossfitters never shutting up about it.

it's fun and will actually show some (maybe not the best) results. And since Veeky Forums is a bunch of pathetic loser, who are affraid of anything, they will throw poo at it so they can tell themself what geniuses they are by not doing it.

Literally I bet Veeky Forums is in better shape than 80% of gym-goers

And nobody here has mentioned that crossfit gyms cost like $125 a month to have some people tell me to lift hectically for an hour.

Like I can understand if you're middle aged and want to be part of a mildly in shape community of people who can't be bothered to research/write their own programs but it's just clearly not worth the cost if you have even a mild idea about what you're doing.

...

Is crossfit still a thing? I figured it would wane like any other fad.

I counted 6 buzzwords

>what is the general meaning of the word "social"
>how do people interact while doing anything
>RRREEEEE why are people trying to talk to me
>tfw no gf

This is kinda the self-demonstrating point.

Veeky Forums is for people with autism trying to get phyiscally better. CrossFit is for socially adept people trying to get physically better. Pick one that suits you.

Although I have to admit I've been mired out loud for my no-nonsense get-in-do-WOD-get-out attitude when I was doing CrossFit. People there can easily be hyper-social.

>CrossFit is for socially adept people trying to get physically better
This. CrossFit is also only shit when people with literally no experience are made do complex movements or when the person teaching them is a limpwristed retard who took some certificate class and has no real experience him/herself

Yep, with Reebok shilling taking over the corp the quality control went to shit.

Tho where I went for CrossFit, all the coaches were at least bachelors of oly lifting, and they made sure to drill the proper form into us.
Three years later I still got it.

There are good gyms, obviously. It's 2017, so it's not hard to check people's credentials, check the place out in person and on social networks, etc

The guy who does crossfit and the one who wears all-nike everything are the same person.

It has high rates of injury/rhabdomyolysis.

The upside that it has is that it is trendy, and immediately makes you a "cool", "fitness" person.
Ex. If you tell someone Bodybuilding is your main hobby, and Ig post-accordingly VS telling someone CF is your main hobby, and Ig posting accordingly.

Yes they do, but they primarily focus on barbell exercises.

These guys actually look like they enjoy their sport and can walk by a mirror without stopping to check themselves out, unlike body builders.

is the injury thing inevitable?

i'm thinking about joining crossfit soon because i've joined several gyms in my life and i just don't go. i want to do crossfit because i think the cult mentality thing will at least get me to go so i can get in decent shape (i'm a skinny guy who is somewhat naturally athletic but never been in shape). if i'm careful i'll be fine, right?

My main issue with crossfit is that too many WOD's involve doing compound lifts for time. In my opinion deadlifts, squats, cleans or anything with a barbell should never be done against a clock, that's where you fuck yourself up. I know probably 20 people that do crossfit and 15 of them have injured themselves, some seriously.

High intensity cardio should be reserved for mostly body weight and light weight excercises that are difficult to injure yourself on. Compound excercises with barbells for time cause most people to sacrifice form.

...

No it isn't.

Find a gym with qualified coaches (I'm talking some real degrees and results beyond CrossFit L1 certificate), preferrably with strength focus (some do programming for amerifootball with less cardio and more lifting). Always take your own sanity checks and never hesitate to ask again if you don't feel you completely understand WTFIGO.

Didn't really see any cult mentality, it's more of a friendly competitive environment that helps gains.

In a way ya. You probably won't get some of the tightness or imbalances that specialists get, but in a world where you don't actually need to physically do shit, its really just a hobby. We have bulldozers, jackhammers, crowbars, cars, bicycles, and tons of tools to do physical things for us or assist us. There really isn't a need to be really physically fit. So just do whatever you like the most.

Because it's retarded. The workouts are memes with 90% of the time doing retarded fluff. It's stupid expensive (the whole thing is to make money off idiots) and the as fast as possible style of lifting combined with high reps and momentum is the path to snap city.

Snap city is when you hurt you back (SNAP your back) or generally hut youself while lifting. Mostly because of bad form or too heavy weight.
Pic related, this guy is going for his one-way ticket to snap city.
