Does anyone feel that volume doesn't do jack shit for their squat and specificity doesn't make a difference at all in bench?

I feel like most of my squat gains come from work in the 85-95% range at RPE 9ish, while most of my bench gains come from high reps and high volume accessories

Uhhhm. No. Here's what works for me:

>SQ: blast out a few tough sets, rep range is almost irrelevant and as long as form is tight it's all productive work
>BP: Sheiko/Sheiko-esque high vol submax training with some bodybuilding
>DL: heavy pulls from the floor. not a ton of volume, some paused deads, some SLDLs, some hypers

The pattern holds somewhat true for you then I guess, idk about diddlys cause I haven't trained them hard enough to know what I respond to best but so far it seems to be heavy singles with a few easy back offs

I don't use chalk so I can't recommend a brand but I see tons of people just keeping it in a plastic bag

Unless you have t-rex arms you'll likely get a lot out of switching to sumo over time.
You'll be able to get a wide stance without your feet touching the plates, and with a shorter torso the rotation will be smoother.

I was a just about 240 lbs when I did it. I'm going to try it again in a meet on Saturday, at 230 lbs if I can lose another five goddamn pounds before I have to weigh in.

I had been doing squats and shit for about six and a half years now, specifically for powerlifting for about six months, but generally had been doing 3x5 or 5x5 the entire time.

It's not that I ONLY did multiple sets of five. Early on the TM I would do a 1x5 on Friday, and for a TM-esque style Olympic program I did to assist in clobbering opposing rugby players, I would usually do 5 singles for intensity day. Which is also what I've been doing since focusing on powerlifting.

But, even doing that, MOST of the progress is driven by the 5x5. The singles don't do much other than condition me to stay tight and recruit maximum motor units under goddamn heavy weights.

Disclaimer: will not work on excessively whippy bars (ie. Texas bars). Like any other gym tip or trick, may or may not work for you, but worth a thought as it has made 4 of my lifters +260kg deadlift one pulling 295kg.

So i've been doing SS while regaining my strength and I'm now back at my old strength level (albeit i'm about 10kg heavier now). Should I keep going to see if I can gain more strength or should I hop onto a normal program again?

I don't want to injure myself lifting too heavy for too long (the weight i'm lifting is surely not designed to be lifted on SS).
