The closest thing to an argument people get to on economics is muh unemployment. The main difference since apartheid is that there are more people actively looking for work, but total number of unemployed (including those not looking) was estimated at about 30% consistently under the last decades of apartheid, and post apartheid it's been way better than this at times.
