It could be that, in the great evolutionary game, the taller men (height being a naturally attractive trait) required less impressive facial aesthetics to attract a mate. Whereas the shorter men with a disadvantage had to be more handsome to make up the difference.
Remember that faces look different depending on the angle that you're looking at them. So looking from below may make a face look better.

Short guys are stocky and wider in general, face included, a wide face is pretty much 50% of male facial aesthetics in my book.

Stopped growing but body still developing, which was my theory, I stopped growing at like 20 so I've only had 3 years of my body composition catching up to my new proportions, whereas if I stopped growing at like 15 I would've had 8 years for my body to develop proportionally
