I've started a water fast and intend to do about 10 days. Only 20 hours in, but curious if anyone else has done a water fast before. Or does it get the Veeky Forums thumbs down?

Also, when you did your water fast, did you use any supplements? Potassium, magnesium, and salt?

Im fasting but not water fast because I drink coffee and tea like mad. Cant get enough of caffeine.
Its legit good, literally tons of benefits like lower insulin and insulin resistance. I just get hunger when I see food but subsides when I drink water. You should take vitamins and salt when doing extended fasting(beyond 24H fasting).

My cravings for sweet foods extremely dropped, I once tried eating my favorite cake and it felt meh, I want more Peanut butter now.
Overall my health improved and my cravings dropped so it worked for me.
Also be prepare mentally before doing any fast because you're changing your lifestyle.
Last note, I dont recommend extended fasting for people that bulk. Just a regular 16:8

After i did a 7 day fast i had similar results. I crave PB and salads. Ive hated salads for 28 years and suddenly cant get enough. Junk food doesn't seem nearly as appetizing now and after eating it I wish I had eaten something more satisfying.

I also had a port wine birthmark on my neck, after 7 days it lightened considerably, its almost gone. I didnt even notice till my lady friend pointed it out. And a hemangioma on my hand shrunk too.

You were still eating right? There's your problem. Prolonged fasting promotes a ton of hormonal changes that eating at a severe deficit doesn't. A severe deficit slows down metabolism whereas fasting can increase it.

I made a mistake of giving a seminar presentation while fasted for 3 days.

I've found the sweet spot is about 48 hours.

Granted, you miss out on the proposed benefits of 72 hours+ which are quite interesting (go do some research) but I'd need to wait till I wasn't working/uni to do that.

Water fasting works, but you really need to informed so you know what your body is telling you. You can fuck yourself up, example 3 day water fast refeed huge carby meals for a day and then back into another fast. Your body won't like that shit in the long run. There are great ways to use water fasting but you need to do the research and see what your body likes.

Salt is used daily. Morton LiteSalt is preferable because it's 1/2 salt 1/2 potassium. Just chug down some water with 1/4 teaspoon.
