I try to do this but just can't stick with it. I'll do it every day for a few weeks and get a very nice spiritual connection, but after that it just fizzles out and I feel like I'm just saying words over and over. It's not that easy. It's more about detaching yourself from our thinking so that you can observe the noise rather than get caught up in it.

You can't stop yourself thinking. The more you try the worse it gets. Anyone who attempts meditation in that way will fail.

You've got to build the control and strength to side step it, bring yourself into the present moment and allow the mind to quiet itself without you trying to force it to.

I'd recommend anyone who wants to meditate to look up some guided meditation or take classes. You can spend a long, long time doing it 'wrong' and end up very jaded about the practice when, if you do it right, is one of the most positive things you can do for yourself and those around you.

A few months of regular meditation profoundly changed my attitude towards life and finally broke me solidly out of this perpetual cycle of depression and anxiety pretty much by giving me the tools to actually observe myself building these patterns and change them.

Don't be fooled into thinking it should be easy. It's not easy. It takes dedication and you have to learn and improve. Totally worth it.
