Your first mistake is trying to lose weight with running.

Fix your diet and start with low impact exercises first, like walking.

Its mainly diet (under 1500 calories a day)
How long should I wait before starting to run?

You can run at any wait but you have shin splints right now.

You're going to need to take a couple weeks off of running. LISTEN TO THIS ADVICE. Training through injuries is only going to give you more problems on top of what you already have.

Shin splints are common. If you're trying to lose weight you need to focus on diet anyway. Count your calories and eat at a deficit.

Read the sticky.

Fuck cardio, just lift. You can loose just as much if not more weight without blowing out your kneecaps on a treadmill.

Or just swim, you burn a fuck ton of energy and its easy on joints.

>How long should I wait before starting to run?
how heavy are you?

I went for running because it burns alot of calories compared to lifting

5ft 10" , 179 pounds

>everytime I run my shins get so sore

How long have you been running?

Also do you have good shoes?

Also, how heavy are you?

you need to LIFT to increase your daily calorie burn

you need to do CARDIO for the immediate amount of calories you burn doing it.

running for 2 weeks every 2nd day

Shoes are old but they are running shoes

179 pounds 178cm/5ft 10"

That seems pretty normal to me.

it's not a weight problem (i weigh the same and i run half-marathons etc.). it's likely poor footwear, or poor running form, or trying to do too much too quickly—or a combination of these

don't train through the injury as says. wait until you've healed up. follow something like a couch-to-5k programme and *be patient*. you may want to consider undergoing a gait analysis performed and getting a decent pair of shoes

ive got a fat face and a fat belly, almost no muscle

>Shoes are old but they are running shoes

How old is old?

Could be that the gel in your shoe that is supposed to absorb most of the impact is just worn out.

I run 3 times a week and I need to buy a new pair atleast every year.

Are you running properly? Maybe youre heel striking. Try running with hitting mid foot rather than the heel on the ground.

Had these nikes for 2 years and walk my dog in them every day
So i guess i need a new pair

Thanks man, I have been landing on my heels everytime

Shin splints/running pain are usually caused by:

Poor form
Improper shoes

Study these two things and find out how to run right and you won't have as much pain. I say "as much" because depending on how overweight you are, that's still going to give some pain, but fixing your form and getting good shoes will help to mitigate that

I'm young but I feel like I've got an old mans knees so much random pain and so much grinding and popping when I squat

Try cycling it's easier on your joints

>cycling

Have fun having to spend twice the time you would compared to running.

>he doesn't enjoy cycling

>>be fat
>started running
well done, dipshit

Thanks bro

Don't run if you're fat for the love of God. Get on the elliptical and swim

cycling is the 2nd best way to retain muscle while sprinting is the 1st

you're retarded if you don't do cardio with cycling

If it's taking you longer you're not cycling hard enough.

>you're retarded if you don't do cardio with cycling

>"there is only one way to do cardio"

this isn't really true. take a look at Griepel's data from the Tour of Flanders last year: trainingpeaks.com/blog/power-analysis-andre-greipel-s-tour-of-flanders/

average HR: 143. it's pretty well known that the HR demands for running are greater than they are for cycling (over durations longer than a few minutes)

that's not to say that cycling isn't great

if you really want to run then do this: lift and build up some muscle on your legs (this will also strenghten your joints). At the same time do cardio that doesn't put too much stress on your joints like cycling/elliptical to increase your endurance.

After a month or two of doing this I assure you you'll be able to run 5k easily

The advice already here is solid. Good job on getting started! If you view this whole losing weight thing as general self improvement, the next step would be 1 set of interacting with the staff. They are always happy to help in my experience, because that's their job description, not putting away weights. Keep it up!

no, you're just a shitty runner
