i doubt you actually wanted an answer but basically it's because most of them had one or two of the same views as the movement, found out about the subculture via mass communication, continued to learn about the one or two things they already had in common and quickly picked up on the other, weirder parts because humans are social animals and they likely felt somewhat isolated from the mainstream culture originally due to the one or two opinions they shared with that subculture before they found it

May as well play on live unless you're autistic about the in-game economy which in that case you can play on the reddit server (i forget the name) but I don't like it because it has maphack and I like the live public games where it's a sorc and hammerdin bots clearing chaos sanctuary and baal's throne and you follow for the free xp.
