What does Veeky Forums know about the final months of WW2?
How did the army cope switching from Clausewitzian principles to pseudo-Gurrella warfare? How did the Citizens feel about getting pushed into service with less then acceptable equipment (Like fucking bamboo) What sort of Propaganda/argument was there for the citizens of Germany and sympathetic French, Austrian, Belgians in their occupied Territories? (SS Charlemagne and similar groups either military, political or citizens) What was the situation of the Axis in Northern Italy following the fall of Italy and the invasion of Normandy? How did the warfare on the Kuril islands play out? How was the liberation process of the occupied territories in Asia,Africa compared to the liberation process in Europe? (Mostly focusing on Britain, France, the Netherlands and the united states)
Anything on late war/last ditch firearms and armaments is also welcome. Got any pics feel free to spam.
>What sort of Propaganda/argument was there for the citizens of Germany and sympathetic French, Austrian, Belgians in their occupied Territories?
Hitler and company didn't care at all. They viewed the German as failing them so they viewed what was happening as suitable punishment.
Christian Green
>What sort of Propaganda/argument was there for the citizens of Germany and sympathetic French, Austrian, Belgians in their occupied Territories? (SS Charlemagne and similar groups either military, political or citizens)
Occupied territories such as France were essentially converted to the Nazi's aims on a slightly larger scale than expected, mainly because >The allied bombings of France made the French feel betrayed >To many French, the Normandy landings were thus an invasion >France was demoralized and felt disconnected to the allied cause
From this, the Nazis essentially appropriated conservative sentiment in France into a foreign grown fascist movement.
Guderians last offensive in January 1945 would have cleared the overstretched Russians out of Poland and East Prussia.
But Hitler took the 6th SS panzer army away without telling him, and the offensive lost its southern pincer.

I like this OP. I find that part of the war fascinating. What was the mindset of the people getting handed a crude rifle and told to hold back the Soviets? Blows my mind. Also, any battles or recorded skirmishes of them being effective?
I also think of "last ditch" style firearms if USA was invaded. More of a what if, but interesting.
Camden Morgan
I imagine it all happened rather fast.
Think of it like this man, remember how June and July of 2017 felt like yesterday?
Well, it would've felt like that to a German in March 1945 too. And when you realize that in June 1944, the Germans still held parts of Russia and all of France.
The news would've all come so fast to the civilian populace. The actual speed of German collapse in 144 was a total blow to the General staff.
But to the average German, Hitler beat France and drove the allies from the continent before, why couldn't he do it again? I imagine to them, hope still resided in their total trust and faith in Hitler, nothing more. They had no idea their source of hope was now paranoid and addicted to Meth, commanding divisions which no longer existed as he fantasised of the glory days before 1943.

Treasonous scum should have fought harder for the Fuhrer and for Deustches Reiches! Fucking cucks, they should have fought to the death for Hitler and for the National Socialist freedom that Hitler and his state brought to the Deutsches volkes! Traitors and cowards. Should have fought harder! But I should be less angry because the AfD is coming to the power soon. Soon German greatness will rise again!

My grandmom (passed away back in 2015) did radio work civilian side for the Nazis. Elected to run when she started to be told to deflate the casualty reports spectacularly (or inflate that of the enemy) to avoid the Russian rape machine. Got to France and became a GI wife. For the average German they'd have been fed those lines and lacked the means to tell otherwise unless they had a contact in the military or intelligence. So at a minimum it'd have taken the enemy arriving right to the German frontier to really start to worry. Even then it'd be easy to think "We'll get a negotiated surrender" since that was the precedence
There is a thread of suicide fantasy in a lot of neo-nazis. Perfect being the enemy of good and the desire to pull that Goebbels the Gerbil "We'll slam the door on history so hard they'll be stupefied" with a bit of the suicide-revenge fantasy. The last bit is how someone killing themselves want to imagine everyone will be sorry when they are gone, they'll realize how they screwed up and they were the bad guys. In the neo-nazis case it's the desire to have their Berlin bunker moment, to have nignogs and brown people realize in 50-100 years "Oh man we fucked up, white people were right and they were better than these soulless Chinese"
You see it with how they are more interested in screaming 1488 at the top of their lungs even when it would be worse than being more clandestine and practicing opsec and having greater success. If the choice is a race war they lose or incrementalism they win, they'll choose race war.
Logan Taylor
An apt deconstruction, but to be honest I think most if it really came down to it would pick the status quo, rather than a full blown race war - considering that they're mostly fairly cowardly, meek people.
Carson Gutierrez
You forgot the part where the Brits betrayed the French and blasted their navy into bits.
Jaxson Ward
Didn't they scuttle it themselves?
Christian Morales
They gave them a fair warning. Hand over the navy, or they'd blow it up. The Brits had no choice.
John Adams
No, they said they would scuttle them before surrendering them to the Germans. Attacking a neutral power because they refuse to violate the terms of their armistice is pretty despicable.
Robert Thomas
>muh vichy france was neutral
you post this nonsense every thread, vichy france was already openly collaborating with the Nazis.
And the fact is, if the allies had to violate a piece of paper to help defeat the fucking Nazis, then I support them.
Ryan Perry
And the man in charge of the French navy, whom personally knew Churchill from world War one told him that the Navy would be scuttled before given to the Germans.
Liam Mitchell
And Hitler said he wouldnt invade half of the nations he went on to invade. Why would you take an opposing government at their word?

Some Luftwaffe troops in 1945. At least one of them is carrying a Mosin Nagant.
Jaxson Collins
Because by virtue of that stupid attack they could have pushed the French fleet into the axis, and even actively started a war with the French. I am sure the free French forces were also not happy with that. Also first hand accounts report that many of the French ships were ready to defect and join up with the Brits. But the Brits opened fire upon them.
Bentley Rodriguez
And yet it was not before the deadline, with most of the admiralty being pro-german.
>Also first hand accounts report that many of the French ships were ready to defect and join up with the Brits. But the Brits opened fire upon them.

>How the fuck would the Brits have known? Perhaps by communication with the ships before shooting them? I am sure you think pearl Harbor was a justified sneak attack too.
Nolan Flores
Oh my fucking god. French nationalists and wehraboos are the fucking worst.
How are you equating the British giving the Fascist French State an ultimatum to join their fleet up with the British or have it blown up with the Japanese randomly attacking near undefended american ports? Do you have fun being a retard?
Furthermore, there's literally no way for sailors on board those ships to communicate, and I doubt they would've defected, considering how few soldiers joined the free french army.
Christopher Lewis
>How did the army cope switching from Clausewitzian principles to pseudo-Gurrella warfare?
They didn't, lmao
Zachary Myers
>Hand over the navy, or they'd blow it up
They even gave them a third option to sail escorted to the USA so they could leave them in American harbors away from the threat of Nazi takeover (likely because the French may have been too proud to hand their ships over to the British)
They declined that option too. There was literally no reason for them to do this, they were either just fucking retards or they were actually collaborating with the Nazis.
I disagree, for a fascist (I have spoken to many in real life... im not kidding) they are in a way, belief above life. To them, if the time came, they'd rather die than live a failure.
Of course this is easier said than done, but compare the suicides from German defeat and to an extent, Japanese defeat (not fascist I know) and compare that to the early defeats of the rest of Europe.
For many fascists, death is not a scary thing, and I think it shows. This is not a praise or criticism, but your pseudo psychology is pretty cringy. Liken their fight to the end, like a christian who remains faithful until death. They simply believe in more than themselves, which is also common in communist nations too, where many often fight bitterly to the end.
Adam Green
They had four options. And that was not one of them.
>Join the British fleet and continue to fight the Germans
>Be escorted to the West Indies or to a British port
>Have the ships disarmed at Oran under the supervision of the British
>Scuttle the ships where they were harboured.
Then you also have the part where they showed up demanding this at gun point. The French already got a concession to disarm their entire fleet in North Africa, but in a fit of autism Churchill okayed the attack anyways. And yeah when an "allied"/neutral fleet shows up and says we are in charge of you or you will be sunk it is entirely rational to tell them to piss off.
I've read some (photo)books on 1944 and 1945 from the German perspective. Very interesting to read and see. For example pictures of the trapped Germans in Courland.

There were German soldiers trained to ride bicycles to where they were needed in the event of a surprise attack from paratroopers landing behind the frontlines. It's a pity for them that they had such a severe oil shortage. I assume most of their horses were either dead or still committed to supplying the fronts.

And it is entirely rational to choose to hold onto your navy instead of handing it over to either country, allied or not. The French Navu said that they would scuttle their ships if the Germans tried to take them. And they made good on their promise at toulon, regardless of the collaboration on the party of the Vichy government otherwise. You also have to remember that handing over the French navy to Britain might very well be considered a breach of the armistice by the Germans and could have led to the removal of what sovereignty the French had left, now bereft of the only intact branch of their military. The French navy was left with a tough choice and they chose the least objectionable one, holding onto their navy and promising that they would not hand it over to the Germans (again, a promise they made good on). While you can't realistically blame the British for their decision, neither can you fault the French by standing by theirs, especially in their situation.

The German Engineering and decision making is too autistic. It tries to birth something theoretically super advanced, which turns out to be either completely inapplicable, or highly expensive in manufacturing and maintenance, unwieldy and vulnerable. In contrast, Russian engineering is all about dry pragmatism.
