/run/ - "It's too hot outside, I'm longing for fall" edition

No /run/ in the catalog.

Should've gone out running earlier then 12:00, too hot for me (25 degrees Celsius).

> not running in the early morning

you fucked up breh

enjoy the wheelchair at 40 yo

I know, but it got too comfy drinking coffee and shitposting.

How many miles a week are people doing?

>10 miles per week noob here.

I love the heat. Born and raised Florida and the humidity keeps thing nice around 100 degrees. Start feeling your whole body throbbing

This doesn't sound pleasant, how is this desirable, pls explain

You can just go slower. Sure it sucks but when winter comes your runs will feel fucking great.

...

pfft, nigga I just run 10k in 36min, get on my level

>Pic related

Nice!

I'm not built for running, 170cm/80kg so I'm hoping I'll be able to do 10km in 45 minutes some day.

Threadly reminder to join the Strava, lads: strava.com/clubs/fitizens

Also, just finished my mid-week medium long run of 12.2 miles.

> Dyel wrists

/run/ fags confirmed DYEL

Real niggas don't run

Noice

Shut up queer.

It gets to above 90F by 7am here. I've just learned to tolerste it, do my run, and take a cold shower. Have a real bad farmer's tan though.

when did you first start running? how often do you do it? any tips? your result is pretty sweet

Went for my first run today a whopping 3km, gonna do 5km next time. Any tips for a beginner, i don't know weather i should be prioritising things like pace or distance or what???

I'm hoping to just build up to 10km in the next few weeks then maybe work on running that faster and faster, then possibly play around with distances, is this a reasonable approach?

>189 avg bpm

sick cunt. even 180 for a few minutes feels like death for me

>it's too hot
Go in shorts only, faggot.

>25c is hot
Not going to make it

No.....work on distance, then speed. Try running 2 miles a day, for 5 days. And go from there.

Fuck off fellow Floridabro
The heat and humidity here make it absolutely miserable to run

>running at noon
fucking neets

Not that user, but my last 10k race also had a 190bpm average.
Did feel like death throughout
>tfw only managed a 42

damn son that's good. What's your average resting hr?

Fall is the best

Hunting season, fresh organic meat

Usually about 200 - 300lbs of deer and got a moose tag so thinking around 500 - 800lbs of moose

Probably about 250lbs of pepperoni and sausage

Down to my last 10 lb bag of pepperoni

Hot afternoons like this are a prime time to hit the range and hone those shooting skills

around 70k a week atm. Being careful not to overdo it, but looking to get to 100k in the next couple months

>lifting for years
>decide I should run more
>Fitbit resting heart rate goes from 52 to 58
>all of my whys

at least I can run 8:52 mile. For 6 feet, 185, first run this year, that was pretty good, I didn't even know if I could run a mile at all.

My coach has us do different amounts every week, based off of our highest mileage week. For example: this week we're at 85%, so it'll be 76.5 miles for me. Next week is 100% so I'll be at 90 miles.

any of you boys running sf this sunday?

rec some music albums for running bros

Aesop Rock

Boards of Canada

Queen

Death Grips.

I don't know. I run daily, and I run in 2017, so kilometers are the measure I use most often.
About 400 furlongs a week for you Yanks
Set a metronome to run in the background (phone app) and use it to drive your feet.

youtube.com/watch?v=fhyhP_5VfKM

>tfw every day this week is going to be in the fucking 90s

I can't even enjoy my run without feeling like dying I can put up with a lot but not 95 degree weather with humidity. should I just run at night now

I unironically recommend anime theme music the up tempo songs work best

Ran my longest ever run yesterday, 4 miles at 10min pace. I have the cardio endurance to go so much faster, I'm not even close to being winded afterwards (been cycling competitively for over a year), but it's my legs that are holding me back. My ankles usually hurt when I run, and my legs in general just feel like shit (thankfully it's not exactly painful, just an incredibly uncomfortable feeling). I've only been running for a few months now and have a good pair of shoes, will this feeling go away?

It's not just being uncomforable that is bothering me, it's that it always feels like I am damaging my body when I run, it doesn't seem right that they feel so bad.

for a lot of people the heart adapts faster than the body, just run less for now

form drills can help
High knees
Butt kicks
toe jumps
running through sand or snow
running on ice/slick surfaces

and core work, you lazy faggot. We could ALL use more of that.

can anyone redpill me on running technique? i always ran hitting the ground with my heel first but now ive heard its your forefoot that you should land on, went and ran a 5k today like that, and a) my pace was much worse than usual b) it was really tiring for my feet and my calves are killing me now
how exactly should your stride look?

You need to land on the balls of your feet. Make your stride less far apart. Heel striking is BAD

What kind of watch is that cuh?

Has anyone noticed 1 alcoholic drink at dinner effects your run in the morning?

Hey /run/

training for my first competition atm. Everything was going great until yesterday. My knee started hurting and it doesn't feel better today. I think the reason is that one leg is longer than the other Had a similar problem some years ago. I run 6 days/week atm. I consider replacing three of them with stationary bike rides to take some stress off the knee. What do you think? Do you have a better idea?

anyone have a good source for breathing exercises and shit? muscle-wise, i can run for ages, but breathing for me is fucking terrible, on the point where i almost feel like i might have exercise induced bronchospasm. it's not like i'm a fucking fatass, i bike commute everywhere and lift heavy, but when it comes to pushing it and running, i'm winded as fuck after half a mile

work your ass

with specific exercises, ensure all your different glutes are strong. If that doesn't change it, you still have a nicer ass.

It is funny how often people emphasize that their post is not intended to be ironic nowadays...

what kind of cadence is the 'suggested' range? I feel like sprints/distance running would have different strides.

180

how old is that garmin ? jesus they use to be fugly

Was thinking about stretching and foam rolling too... might have a few shortened muscles due to that leg length difference

Try one thing.
If you try a bunch of things, no way to know what worked, and what is time-wasting.

>prints/distance running would have different strides.
Not really. For elites, cadence from 800m through Marathon, easy pace or race pace, is all around 180 strides per minute.

literally too hot to run outsdie where i live. 98* with 50%+ humidity. i can't wait for all of the races coming up in fall, though.

Run in the morning. It's not 98* at 5am.

>5 a.m.

that just sounds awful. no thank you.

not gonna make it

I am with you, I average 25k/16mi. 3k three times a week and 10k on the weekend.

I train twice a week so that distance + training is good enough for me.

>GOTTA GO FAST!!!

recovering couch potato here. do you guys go running in rain as well?

Why would we not?

you could slip and possibly injure yourself

...

yeah it sounds childish but if you do get injured you might not be able to run for a couple of days

The only times I've ever tripped was on tree roots while running a 50k. And that's pary of the fun of trail runs.

...

Leaving the basement can be lethal. Better stay down there 24/7/365

Get better shoes meng

Run always, my worst is in 20 below weather. That makes me want to commit suicide

Form drills and core workouts.

If you really can't get out in the weather, consider that I run outside, in temperatures ranging from +30C down to -40C, in all weather conditions. Build up to it slowly, like any exercise, but don't fucking cringe from it and blame the weather.

Faggot.

You better be chasing your prey to exhaustion.

>fellrnr.com/wiki/Foot_Strike

I guess you could say you're.... running in the 90s

Why is it easier to go father on a treadmill guys I can't replicate what i do in the gym outside

Why is running in the heat so awful? It was 92 when i started. It slows me down so much

Faggot. Just finished an 8k in 30 degree heat. Yes I feel like shit.
>early morning run.
Yep. Doesn’t drop below 25 this time of year. I hate it
>sip.jpg
>pic etc

Topping 30 miles. Looking to hit 40 some point, but muh heat etc.

Do what says.
3k, 3k, 3k, rest a bit. Do a bit more. Go gently.

youtube.com/watch?v=vZCCR-btg3o
Imagine the spastic running!

Actual effort/perceived effort or something. Heat goes up, drop your intensity. Chill out or hurt.

HELP PLEASE

I need your help /run/

I just ran 10-11 miles for the first time (yay) but while I was taking a shower just now I saw one of my toes is fucking blue. It's the toe next to my big toe on my left foot. Is this really bad? Am I gonna die? Do I just wait for it to go away??

Thanks for the help this shit is scary as fuck desu

I'm working on C25K

1 how do you guys do the timing intervals? I'm running with my phone in hand which I think makes my gait awkward

2 is it ok to cycle on off days? I'd like to do 6 days of cardio a week but since I'm a beginner I don't know if that's a great idea

Your shoes are probably too small. If your foot keeps pressing against the front of your shoes you'll bruise your toes

Yeah I read that as a possibility. But what do I do RIGHT NOW? Do I just wait it out? Like, is there anything I should be doing to help it heal faster? Is there anything I should avoid doing (aside from running again)? Do you know how long it usually takes to heal?

Thanks either way! Seriously this shit is not cool

there's tons of audio with music that does it for you. option 2 is you just put it ontop of your tracks yourself

Oh maybe I miswrote what I'm trying to say. I have the app on my phone and listen to music while running just fine. But I currently hold my phone in my hand, which I think makes my gait uneven as I'm holding a weight (albeit a small one) in one hand and also I have a tendency to pull my earbuds out of my ear due to swinging my arms. I was just wondering if there was a different/better method

you can buy an arm case for it or put it in your pocket.

if you don't have pockets and you're a poor fag you can fashion a sleeve by cutting a sock, just make sure its secure and you aren't making a tourniquet

Calorie intake. Screw macros and gains, thinking raw calories and /run/ carbohydrate fuel. How much estimate for a 50km a week runner with 80km cycling thrown in (16km a day commuting plus running and working).
>inb4 depends on effort, age, time, wind, phases of the moon

What do yall think

I live in Carmel, wanna go running sometime bro

Sure , im new to this so if im breathing like an elephant dont be surprised , how do want to get in contact

>pic related
whats it like being a Hitman^TM?

>Why is running in the heat so awful? It was 92 when i started. It slows me down so much

36c/97f for me... was going to go for an 12mile run, gave up..

>I was just wondering if there was a different/better method

flipbelt.com/flipbelt-zipper

got one, phone, keys, wallet all snug, doesn't bounce around. shorts don't have pockets, so this is what i got.

when i go outside on my bike i put one some shirt sleeves that i cut off from a shirt and some gloves so i dont get burned

thought you had done 5 miles in 23:49 for a minute there, wondered why a D1 all american was posting on Veeky Forums

The alcohol is dehydrating you, especially overnight unless you had a fat glass of water after you drank it. So drink twice as much water as the amount of alcohol you drank

Anyone /midnight run/ here?

I almost exclusively run after 9PM. Something about the cool air and the fact that street are empty is fucking magical.

Also I live in a safe city so no getting robbed or murdered even when running in dark parks.

I love night runs. Real early ones are good too. Empty streets are great.

I'm more of a sunset/dusk runner, i get worried about literally getting ran over hit n run style. I live in a big city, I wear a big reflective vest too, people are still stupid

Bump

you should probably rest if it hurts.
If the other user is right about your toe bruising that means that there's a lot of pressure on your big toe, which could be caused by small shoes, small toebox, or bad form.
Small shoes and small toebox are common issues since you don't really notice tight shoes as they only get tight when you run since your feet swell, and by then you are probably more focused on running. The general advice is have a thumb's width or slightly more of space between your big toe and the tip of your shoe. The toebox should be large enough that you can wiggle your toes in your shoe comfortably.
Bad form can also put pressure on your toes. Alot of people have a habit of "braking" too much when they land which can push the foot up to the front of the shoe. If you "brake" you will feel horizontal shock if that makes any sense. When you run you should really only feel that you are absorbing vertical shock in your muscles.
Of course I am speaking widely from personal experience and I might be horribly wrong, but I hope this helps.

Fuck tendonitis.
>Alright the old achilles finally feels better, lets do a light jog
>Cant walk next day
>Another couple months of no running

I live in South Florida. I run indoors

There's this slight pinch like deep in my right quad whenever I take a step. It doesn't really hurt but it's annoying. I'm new to running btw.

I run a 2.48 marathon on 10 miles a week, but I do lots of cross training on the bike too to keep my cardio up. I only train from speed when running, all other cardio, endurance etc.. done on bike
