Also started meditation, 20 minutes a day at the moment.
Is there a certain diet to improve cognitive functions?
Reading. Books like psycho-cybernetics
I've realized not to take life so seriously. I can pick up on negative emotional states that I normally wouldn't, and then just by observing them they dissolve right there.
If anything else I've learned patience. Ever try sitting completely still for an hour observing the breath? Harder than it sounds.
lots of yoga/meditation. if people would like a starter meditation tip is "red light meditation" every time youre stuck at a red light (usually 2 mins) turn off the radio and say a phrase over and over again, "i am good, i am happy, i am well"
WRONG

That's insane. I'm at 15 minutes of zen mediation every day, and it's honestly pretty hard. I get distracted and itchy very often and I also tend to postpone the meditation all day, until I'm forced to do it when I actually want to sleep.
