You'll find strongmen, BBs and weightlifters (in comp. they are regularly lifting max attempts with only 3 minutes between) rarely take 5 minute rests. Why? They're conditioned from not sitting on their asses for 5 minutes after simply bouncing a bench off their fat bellies everyday.

those are oly plates which are pretty different than normal gym bumper plates.
the bumper plated that I've used (similar to the ones in OP) are kinda dyel because you can only fit 4 onto a bar

For a lot of people. 4-5 minute inbetween sets is a common rest period for a lot of people who lift for strength. The creatine in your muscles isnt completely restored until like 5 minutes, if not more.
