Are Chiropractors Legit?

I slightly snapped my shit up about a week and a half ago doing diddies (please no meme i fully accept my form was garbage) and got a terrible pain in my lower right back. I iced it and shit for the first couple days and the muscular pain stopped but there's still pain in the spine when I sit for too long. Anyway is it worth seeing a chiropractor for this or just go to some emergency care clinic?

>pic related is me irl

Also I do have health insurance so it's not a matter of not being able to pay for it. I just don't want to waste my money/time.

i like how he straightens his back for a split second and looks to have an alright starting position and then throws form out the window as soon as he starts the lift

Chiropractic treatment is based on the idea that the source of all disease is misaligned joints, it's total trash. The founder claims he cured a man's blindness by cracking his back. Some modern professionals try to make it sound legit by talking about adjustments, but you're still way better going off to a physiotherapist, or getting a referral to one from a GP

he's lifting heavy ass weight that his back cannot handle. so he's just using legs and fuck all to back, let that shit bend until it breaks.

Had a cousin get a vertebral fracture from chiropractic "adjustment". The adjusted him into paralysis, lol. Luckily, with emergency surgery performed by real doctors, he recovered like 90% of his motor abilities.

Not to mention all the vertebral artery dissections...

So they're basically glorified massage therapists?

Holy shit. I seriously hope you learned your lesson that form is more important than pretending to be lifting heavy weights.

I have been a few times for me back and knee but i did my research beforehand.
I understand and could belief that them aligning the joints in the spine can relief pain and pressure and do some good but the amount of shit they take credit for is through the roof.
the form i was to fill out literally said they could cure everything from aids to the common cold.
anywho i got a guy who used to work with the nfl and he is pretty go and does give me exercises to work on my weak spots that are working..

No, massage therapists can actually do some good.

>fell for the deadlift meme

Not actually me tard.

Legit for back issues, pseudoscience for everything else

I'm a massage therapist that works next door to a chiro, and I still don't know what she does. I've offered to trade so I can learn first hand at what she does but no dice yet.

Either way, I'm fairly sceptical about their work. With muscles and nerve pathways, I can understand most of the effects and for the presentations that I don't get sent to my osteopath.

swimming helps

Yeah dude is legit, then while you're there you can do some magnet therapy.

Talk about perfect timing.

>wake up this morning
>feel like head is hanging (though I sleep on a matress on the floor?) so I pull my neck up and I hear a snap
>sudden sharp pain, can't lift head up
>get up, can't turn head left without feeling pain on left side of traps

What the fuck happened? Today was OHP day. Now I can't even fucking lay down without hurting, so no go to the gym either.

do this yoga routine once a day and u will be better then ever. i snapped my shit hard 2 weeks ago, 3 days of doing this type of yoga and felt fine, now i feel better then ever

this is one of the shorter routines this guy has made, but they seem tailored towards injured athletes/pro wrestlers

S-shut up...

What's the diff between a Physiotherapist and Chiropractor?

youtube.com/watch?v=GGxpzyewzxM

first they snap your shit
then they meme you reddit tier.
just look a few videos there, I dont trust them at all. with proper exercise and physiotherapy looks way more healthy than this shit

Physiotherapist -> oriented on muscles, joints, flexibility, almost all of them are legit by science and actual facts
Chiropractor -> oriented on bones and joints allignment, snaping your shit up, no legit science behind

these videos give me a boner for some reason
it's like rape porn to the massage asmr's sweet vanilla

Are you fucking serious? Don't you have access to a dictionary in your shit country?

Firstly, a chiro is pure snake oil, also known as CHARLATAN! It was started in the 1800's in the US by a saleman who decided that all illness is caused by 'subluxations' of the spine. It has no scientific merit at all.

A physio (depending what sort you need) will aid you in regain normal function after injury or surgery. Such as if you have hip/knee replacement. But you really, really need to be more educated.

things the physio will probably do
>mobilize your spine
>tell you it's gonna be alright
find a sportsphysio and ask him if he can teach you how to deadlift
or do this:

t. physio

No, chiropractors are scam artists. You need to go to a massage therapist because what you're having is muscle spasms.

/thread

I live in the US but okay.

Okay I laughed out loud at this one. I have no idea why

>hat the source of all disease is misaligned joints, it's total trash. The founder claims he cured a man's blindness by cracking his back. Some modern professionals try to make it sound legit by talking about adjustments, but you're still way better going off to a physiotherapist, or getti

Physio is based on proven medical treatments, that when implemented can show reliable and quantifiable benefits over a placebo control group. I.e., practice of medicine.

Chiropracty is quackery based on non repeatable results against a control group. Same category as homeopathic treatments, accupunture, meditation, etc etc.

Its your money bro, do whatever you want. But I can you from experience with a good friend who went through chiropracty that it is a huge risk you are taking. There is nothing worse than back painl ESPECIALLY back pain you paid for the luxury of having inflicted on yourself.

Don't insult massage therapists.

Swear to god, I know someone whose chiropracty session comprised on him being bodychecked into a wall. $300 /hr too.

How these fucks aren't all in jail is beyond me....

you are full of shit. it is impossible to break a bone unless your "cousin" has osteoporosis.

No one ever claimed to cure blindness.

Nor do chiropractors believe all disease comes from a misaligned vertebre.

Chiropractors are like car mechanics. As some have rightly pointed out, are full of shit and think they can cure all your ailments by massaging your back and changing your posture. Like a shit car mechanic, you may pay a lot of money for absolutely nothing and you may infact have your item returned (in this case, spine) in a worse state.

Ive had two episodes of bad back pain and on one occasion it was the kind where it hurt to bend over, tie your shoelace, sit on the crapper, driving my car etc. It was a real bad time. My doctor gave me pain killers and told me to avoid lifting...bullshit. Through word of mouth from some guys at my gym i heard there's a chiropractor in my town who specialises in sports injuries. I was desperate having waited a couple of months and it was no better, so i gave it a go. 4 sessions later I was deadlifting and squatting again. After 6 sessions I was sorted. I went back when it came back a few months later and fixed my tweak in 2 sessions.

In short, do your research, and shop around, there are good chiros out there. If you know any guys into sports or competes in meets they probably know a guy. Back pain is so poorly understood in medical circles, go see someone who has years of fixing athlete's bodies.

Some are full of shit**

Just so it made more grammatical sense.

I think a quality signifier is "sport therapists", usually these tend to be the people who can help weighlifters out the most.

No, go see a real doctor or physical therapist

PTA student reporting in.

Some are great, some are shit. They are pretty well educated. HOWEVER, they are alternative medicine. Some recognize that their methods can be dangerous, have limited applications, and are not the end all be all of orthopedic health. These are the good ones.

Some will also treat you for literally anything. My mother in law has a coworker who unironically takes her child to a chiropractor for their allergies. I couldn't make this shit up if I wanted to.

You'd be better off seeing an orthopedic doctor, getting a diagnosis, and being referred to a doctor of physical therapy.

With that said, I have also seen people referred to chiropractors for specific treatments. Some of their equipment and methodologies can be used for legitimate rehabilitative purposes.
