What are some things you wish you had known earlier in life that really helped get you to where you are today? Could benefit social/work/face/mental/physical gains

Also, does anybody have any experience with going cocoon mode? I just lost my very last friend and will basically be by myself for the foreseeable future, if anybody has any books or hobbies they recommend I'd love to hear them

you don't have to be completely friend-free if you don't want to, there's lots of fish in the sea OP. if you do want to go cocoon-mode then I recommend running and volunteering as hobbies that will get you out of the house and possibly lead to new social connections.

some things i wish i'd known earlier in life:
>stop doing so much cardio and lift heavy
>taking out student loans won't kill you, they're a good way to improve credit early in life
>school is more important than work
>go to church

...

-give compliments freely, smile often
-journal morning and night, including a short list of things to be grateful for
-10 minutes of meditation daily
-develop the ability to focus deeply. get comfortable with boredom. ease off of distraction. (read Deep Work by Cal Newport)
-read quality books that teach expand your ability to empathize with others: Denis Johnson, Cormac McCarthy, Michael Chabon, Mark Slouka
-quit social media (sorry this includes reddit and certainly Veeky Forums, which is toxic)
-develop passions and obsessions. lifting is fine but sports are better, especially those that foster strong social ties. pickup soccer, basketball, baseball, etc. bouldering and hiking are fun too
-practice productive creativity. write, draw, paint, play music or whittle
-maintain ties with old friends. call your mom/dad.
-remember that the project of your life is to know yourself. you'll get there.

What I'd liked to have learned earlier is human behaviour.

We're taught a fantasy world of human behaviour when we're kids; a fantasy view of struggling ideologies becomes distilled to one of good vs evil, when it's more the case that everyone sees themselves as a hero fighting villains.

>There are illusions of popular history which a successful religion must promote: Evil men never prosper; only the brave deserve the fair; honesty is the best policy; actions speak louder than words; virtue always triumphs; a good deed is its own reward; any bad human can be reformed; religious talismans protect one from demon possession; only females understand the ancient mysteries; the rich are doomed to unhappiness.

This naivety lends itself well to controlling and manipulating people. The more believe it, the easier they are to influence and direct. The reality is that the axioms described above are virtually never true, rather creating a culture that can be exploited by those who better understand human nature.

Perhaps one of the most important things for a human, an actual human and not the animals wearing human masks, is to learn self control. This is the defining difference between a human and an animal - The capacity for deciding to do something AGAINST instinct. Humanity is actually a few humans using various means of compulsion on their animal counterparts in order to direct society in particular ways - not always good, because humans are not infallible, and often the animals also get in charge of systems they have no hope of controlling.

>jacking my dick so hard to aela
>making a girl character and dressing her like aela and choosing her as a follower
>being taller and stronger so i'm still the dominant one in the lesbo relationship because i'm not a fag

lol

name a better collection than Jesus' Son protip you can't. and don't say Pulphead.

>you don't have to be completely friend-free if you don't want to
its not that I'm purposely cutting them off, but Im rather tired watching the list dwindle as they go full retard despite me trying to help them so I'm ready to say fuck it and just focus on myself

where do you recommend volunteering? And how much did you used to do cardio?

I've cut out social media and most normie sites I go to, but I don't think I'll be able to quit Veeky Forums. This place is too much fun and deserves more credit than is given. any tips on getting into bouldering?

i don't know who that is and i don't care but

lol

and into the bad cosplay folder it goes

luckily climbers are generally incredibly chill. find the closest gym, many offer freebie intro classes (they rent you shoes). or you can go whole hog like i did and just buy shoes and a three month membership and see what happens. then its ForearmBackandAb Town, Population: You

i know right

yeah

can you post a pic of your journal. I've heard that keeping one is a good idea. It's like a dialogue with yourself and you can be brutally honest and stuff.

>stop doing so much cardio and lift heavy
Exact opposite for me. Need to start doing more cardio and cut back on the lifting.

cool. aight bruh

later my dude

later

bye

i volunteered teaching kids how to read and loved it a lot, animal shelters and food banks always need volunteers too. and you can always go hang out with old people in nursing homes, they have cool stories and like to have young people around.

i used to cycle/jog all the damn time to lose weight and i was afraid of the weight section. now i still go running around town but lift in the gym instead of cardio machines.

ok um... yeah bye

yeah

>maintain ties with old friends
Even when I get some time, it always feels like a burden reaching out to my high school friends. I get these bad thoughts that they probably changed, that we won't connect anymore.

Guess I can try and see what happens.
Nice post btw. Got a question for you. What do you think about porn? and people who do noporn/nofap.

y...you too

>teaching kids
>volunteers
>nursing homes
man, you seem like such a nice guy. Like how did you even get yourself into helping other people? I've never thought of doing those things until now.

exactly. gives some shape to your thoughts and helps quiet your mind. I follow the Five Minute Journal template and keep a bullet journal. Also helpful as a writer: Morning Pages. First thing after waking up fill out three pages of writing about literally anything. always feel great afterwards.

>nice guy
lol
nah nigga
i do it for the PU$$

i know the feeling. but most people really do want to hear from you. we're social animals.

i'm not sold on the science of nofap. like anything, though, porn goes bad when it starts to take over your life. and i have an addictive personality so i had to quit.

you go to nursing homes for PU$$?

yupYUPP

I DIDNT EVEN SEE THE GIANT WHILE IT WAS ALIVE YOU DUMB BITCH, HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KILL IT? FUCK OFF

Anyone have that image that says you need to create and not just observe and receive knowledge? It was like a cycle like argument .

Anyone here using a bathmate? I want to get my dingdong thicker, that should count under self improvement aswell. Also started my Master's Degree in Finance this week, shit's gonna be cash. Literally.

>FETU$$ PU$$
chill man

>Anyone choosing Serena over Ayela as a Skyrimfu

Easiest way to spot a pleb

>You need to create knowledge
you mean you need to teach people or you need to discover stuff or something else?

Eye contact and smile

Works best. Make sure you smile with your eyes too. Girls love that shit. Infect them with hapiness and they will asociate you with happy times and thus increasing your chances

The image/post from a board here was trying to tell that if you don't get somewhat creative by doing something like paint, write etc. you lose the point of life and you are an incomplete person. It presented other thins like " You need to do that cause if you don't you are that" over and over with 3-4 things that they were like a circle.

>Multiple cities reaching more than hundreds of thousands in population did not exist prior to the mid-19th century.
The city of Rome had a population of 1 million at its peak. Constantinople had a population of half a million during the reign of Justinian I. In 400 BC Athens had a population of a quarter million. Beijing had a population of 150,000 during the Qing dynasty. Jerusalem had a population of half a million when Jesus was walking around there. Whoever wrote this doesn't know history.

Those large populations are only possible in cities with huge supplies of clean water surrounded by large swathes of agricultural land. Rome only got as big as it did because of the aquaducts.

>Jerusalem had a population of half a million when Jesus was walking around there.
I seriously doubt that.

Alexandria, maybe.

>tfw non smoker
>tfw tried a cigarette today (lucky strike)
>tfw light headed, queasy and feels like theres a vein in my head thats struggling to pump blood

Did I fuck with the gains I could've gotten today? I'm never touching another cigarette in my life

Extremely large cities were almost universally amazing feats of human engineering, though, and were never permanent. They were the crown jewels of their civilizations at the time, and were unsustainable as soon as the powerful central authority that maintained them collapsed. Rome, for example, was reduced to a population of 1,000 individuals (if I remember right, might be up to like 10,000, but still ridiculously small) as soon as the Roman Empire collapsed

Never did you see more than two or three of these mega cities emerge at a time before the modern day

>Rome, for example, was reduced to a population of 1,000 individuals (if I remember right, might be up to like 10,000, but still ridiculously small)

No way it got this low

Is there a discord for this group?

yeah I was wrong, it was between 35,000-50,000 people. Down from its peak of 1m
