Start lifting in 2012

>Start lifting in 2012
>"You don't need to Isolate the Traps bro, just get a 5 plate deadlift and OHP your BW"
>Achieve 5 plate deadlift
>Achieve more than BW OHP
>Traps literally non-existent
>Start isolating traps with a variety of shrugs (mostly smith machine shrugs)
>Traps are start growing

Now I'm hitting my traps 4 times a week with isolation exercises to get them to catch up.

Fuck you Veeky Forums, Fuck you.

>getting advice from a meme board filled with fat people who don't lift, autistic retards, and trolls
i empathize, but this is Veeky Forums bro

This.

I'm honestly convinced that this place is mostly LARPing strength enthusiasts who have done years of strength training research but haven't actually started lifting yet to see that the science & theories of lifting doesn't always 100% entirely match with the realities of real world results.

yea just make sure you never try any of the Veeky Forums recipes. horrible.

>training strenght for aestetics
>claiming 5pl8 diddy and bw ohp
>blaming Veeky Forums for problems

Never gonna make it

You can’t make this shit up

You don't need to isolate the traps because you don't want big traps, unless you're a shoulderlet. If you have wide shoulders, traps ruin the sweep and width.

Frank Zane never hit traps.

>who would've THUNK it I actually did what every single successful bodybuilder does and isolated the body part I wanted to grow instead of following the advice of people on an animu porn site and it worked!

this, Veeky Forums can't cook for shit

Hit the nail on the head.

just a matter of preference really, personally think they're essential for a natty to look like a BIG GUY FOR YOU. lats/traps/chest/delts, need to widen out and get more 3d as much as possible. then bring up the arms.

This. The two main things are PREFERENCE and EXPERIMENTATION. Fags can't get denser than this.

do rackpulls bro my traps blew up from that

>that image
>blames other people for his failures

tbf those people giving the advice never deadlifted 500 or ohp'd 225 in their lives

i have deadlifted 5pl8+ and it was enough to get my traps big, but whether or not you need direct work for good traps depends entirely on your genetics - i can get away with it, you can't

the compound only fad needs to die already

that's what I've been doing for years lol i've never been to the gym in my life and yet i give wrong advice to newfags all the time haha

Did you remember to cut?

Veeky Forums is a meme, take everything with a grain of salt
>tfw stretch marks on hips
stupid rippletitties

Anything you read on Veeky Forums should be disregarded as bullshit until proven otherwise. Lots of the people who post either have never lifted, or aren't currently (and probably never left novice/intermediate when they were), so most likely you are getting advice from someone who has never actually tried what they are telling you to do.

IF you want a certain muscle to grow there is no question that you should be hitting it with multiple exercises, lots of volume and possibly even multiple rep ranges.

Kill yourself you fucking faggot

Do cleans and rows, those hit the traps too, but shrugs are fun as well

Yet, when I hit a 300kg deadlift, heck even at 240kg, my traps developed fairly damn alright (pic related is my progress), never isolating them. Same with doing OHPs (I do shrug them at the top) and plenty enough back workout.

Surely then, the point is that everyone responds differently because of various different reasons, and thus should train accordingly to compensate for muscular imbalances and strength imbalances?

I'm towards the school of thought that strength enthusiasts should train like bodybuilders off season anyway and only train powerlifting for specificity at peaking peroids on season, since the limiting factor in advanced athletes is muscle size, and to some extent rate of cross bridge formation so power... just to avoid decline in velocity which means increased force output required. Skill is honed from years of training which is why a strength base of training is perfect, learn proper form first, then gain muscle, then focus on speed and more muscle gain and strength comes along, as does size. That's plenty evidenced in scientific studies alone and in elite powerlifters.

One thing to bare in mind is that continual strength training only leads to injury deelopment, which is exactly what I have (Herniated Discs & Pec tear - makes squats and deadlifts scary and difficult now and bench isn't as strong as it was). I am an advocate of high volume low intensity training like bodybuilders, gain muscle, then drop to weight category maintaining muscle size, and the inverse training style when it is time for a meet, 12 weeks out, sheiko/smolov. A peroid of tapering should also be used.

You should try it sometimes. It is fun

>I'm towards the school of thought that strength enthusiasts should train like bodybuilders off season anyway and only train powerlifting for specificity at peaking peroids on season

so are most good powerlifting coaches desu

how did you herniate your discs?

This
I tried their recipe for water and ended up setting my car on fire in the process. Public transportation is shit

But there are brosplitters out there who have bigger traps than you and all they do is shrug 225 for a bunch of reps doing that broscience squeezing/contracting

>ask Veeky Forums a question 5 years ago
>do the same exercises for 5 years while seeing no gain
>complain at the end
You are retarded

I will only start giving advice when I see it work on my own body. I don't know why you would give advice with no experience.

>obamacare wasn't repealed
>then negative shit

Oh wait, that's actually something you guys wanted

Start lifting you lil bitch

>something that worked for others did not work for me
shocking

there is no one size fits all, one person might develop good traps with just deadlifts while the other person might not.

You deserve what you get cumshitter cuck.

If you come to Veeky Forums only for actual genuine advice you're gullible as hell. Sure there's some people who know what they're talking about more or less and point you in the right direction but that's like

>All these people in here acting as if what OP said is stupid and that what he was told isn't common practice on Veeky Forums

Do you guys even browse Veeky Forums? People have always said shrugs are worthless and that deadlifts/ohp should be enough. People still get laughed at here for doing any kind of trap isolation exercise.

The fact you guys are acting as if that's not true is fucking retarded and makes me think you're a leddit fegget.

>OHP BW
>doesn't use traps at top of movement
You're either a liar or you have terrible form.

>BW OHP
>no traps

Either u are a fag feeling the need to impress strangers on a manchurian image board with bs claims

OR

what u call an ohp, every sane person would call it a standing leg press

Same. At first I just didn't care that my traps were going out and talking to people. But after I locked them in my basement they actually started to put on weight. Mostly fat, but hey, that's something

iktf

>standing leg press

Theres a name for that you spastic

Science is literally based on real world results lol

This

Big traps are extremely overrated in terms of overall aesthetics.

If you want to look like a roided out gym rat then go right ahead
