Why is picking up a heavy dumbbell harder than picking up a barbell with the same weight or more?

Why is picking up a heavy dumbbell harder than picking up a barbell with the same weight or more?

It's not. A barbell is heavier than a dumbbell of the same weight because of the weight distribution over length.

Because your body is used to the barbell? Also your picking it up with one arm.

Never tried picking up a barbell with one hand?

>A barbell is heavier than a dumbbell of the same weight

...

I find picking up a db way easier though.

But that might be because it's thinner and the knurling on my BB is way too fucking smooth

DOOR 3 MA LORD

>oh shit, he's doubling down.

they all whey the same dude

They all weigh the same 45lb

>brainlets

hehe I was only pretending to be retarded!

Mass is the same.
Force is different because of moments and weight distribution.

This guy is right but his terms are wrong

The atoms on the barbell are distributed further apart, dipshit

They do though. The weight is exactly the same. The moment arm is different and is a complete goal post move though, but they weigh the same.

The picture is basically going to an ohp thread and saying you can deadlift everyone's ohp weight.

The premise is that a bb with the same weight is different than lifting db with the same weight. But one user is a complete retard.

That guy is wrong on every aspect though, even ignoring terms.

The only real difference is stabalization, and the db is harder to lift in that aspect which would mean that the distribution of the weight is irrelevant.

just trying too hard at this point mang

mass is the same. weight is the same. yes, the force needed is greater if you pick it up from the end like a retard, but that's completely irrelevant and just some sort of troll/backtrack

maybe because you typically pick up a barbell with both hands

/thread

it's [/thread]

Probably because you pick up a barbell with two hands you idiot.

Weight isn't the same as necessary force. Weight is the force of gravity in an object. You're getting at torque and mechanical efficiency.

Fucking kek

Is this a new low for Veeky Forums?

funny thread

Jesus

because your body is able to make better use of supporting muscles through the extra leverage afforded by the longer bar

They weigh the same, dipshit. But that's not what he's asking. He's asking which one is easier to hold.

It takes more physical and mental effort to lift dumbbells then barbells.
Ironic.

>These are the same people giving ''''fitness'''' advice

I like this thread

trying to get on /r/Veeky Forums, huh?

The plate of course
>counting the bar

I realize you fucking moron. But the guy who derailed the thread is trying to say a barbell is heavier than a dumbell if they weigh the same by moving all the goalposts.

Stabilizers, retard

I feel like this board is fucking stupid compared to 3 years ago

After this thread I will literally never take advice from this board again.

this

is the weight aluminum or steel?

Why would you take advice from here anyways?

Been laughing a solid 5 minutes at this

Include me in the cap

fucking retard whey to take the bait

you spelled way wrong your dumbass

sorry i didn't have my allotted 200g of protons today yet

itt brainlets

>inb4 a screenshot of this gets posted on Veeky Forums and they bully us for being meathead brainlets

tfw to inteligent to lift weights

>inb4 this is a false flag by some egghead over at Veeky Forums just to make a thread

>doesn't understand what torque and leverage is

> allotted
You meant minimum?

Bruh...

Hahahahahahaha no way this thread isn't bait. No way.

And people like this are giving out advice

put

me

in

the

screencap

because youre using one arm you stupid fuck

you meant to say harder not heavier retard

...

Do you mean lever arm?

Shadman is going on some obscure right wing podcast soon.

>not even hamilton

>what is a moment arm?

>heavier
>same weight

make your mind up brainlet

...

Real answer is that you have to use more of your stabalizer muscles during a dumbbell lift, so it makes it harder to focus all of your energy in a single direction. This is why accessory lifts are so important.

Because when lifting a barbell, you're using the full range of muscles in your entire body along with said body for stabilization against gravity. When lifting a dumbbell, you only have the muscles in your arm to assist. If you're sitting, you somewhat better stability thanks to sitting + a better center of gravity; nonetheless, the muscles that are doing the movement are still limited to your arm.

Thus, dumbbells FEEL heavier than barbells; despite the weight being the same.

Underrated

>burgerland

uh this...duh

>taking advice form /dyel/ in the first place

>hamiltonian

choose both

>I love symmetries!! xdXDdDxD who else took his first analytical mechanics class??
Cringed.

these are the ppl that give out "advice"

>brainlet
Cringed.

...

>>brainlet
Yes that's you, whom I cringed at.

t. dropped physics for philosophy to save his gpa

nice comeback btw

Great projection. If that's all you can manage in 6 mins then I don't see you go far enough to even be a student in one of my classes.

rofl this thread is in my background. Meanwhile it took you 30 minutes to repeat literally the exact same insult back rofl

>works in academia
AHAHAHAHAHAHA nvm I'm sorry man

holy fuck I need this today /fit thank you for the good chuckle

It’s because the dumbbell bar doesn’t count. So say you have 1pl8 on the bar. That’s 2x45 which is only 90 lbs. The dumbbell equivalent would weight 135.

Simple math bruh.

>30 mins
Confirmed retard.
>>works in academia
Engineer confirmed, which doubly confirms the previous assertion that you're a retard.

31:05 you fucking autist

I'm physics/CS nice try though

>larping GED dropout confirmed

>CS
>can't count
Am I surprised? Hint: no I'm not.

I looked at that wrong post it was even longer lmao

you're slow kid

at whom I cringed

Idiot

Because you're using half the arms to pick it up as you would for a barbell

>A barbell is heavier than a dumbbell of the same weight

>same weight
>but somehow heavier

People figured this out thousands of years ago
You're either baiting or you're dumber than a caveman

As long as he keeps drawing asses he could rape a democrat on national tv for all I care

your all wrong everyone knows that barbells dont weigh anything which is why you dont count the bar

It's not ur just gay

>A barbell is heavier than a dumbbell of the same weight

>A barbell is heavier than a dumbbell of the same weight
