>Kuru is a very rare, incurable neurodegenerative disorder that was formerly common among the Fore people of Papua New Guinea. Kuru is caused by the transmission of abnormally folded prion proteins, which leads to symptoms such as tremors, loss of coordination, and neurodegeneration.
>The term kuru derives from the Fore word kuria or guria ("to shake"),[1] due to the body tremors that are a classic symptom of the disease and kúru itself means "trembling".[2] It is also known as the "laughing sickness" due to the pathologic bursts of laughter which are a symptom of the disease. It is now widely accepted that kuru was transmitted among members of the Fore tribe of Papua New Guinea via funerary cannibalism. Deceased family members were traditionally cooked and eaten, which was thought to help free the spirit of the dead.[3] Females and children usually consumed the brain, the organ in which infectious prions were most concentrated, thus allowing for transmission of kuru. The disease was therefore more prevalent among women and children.
>While the Fore people stopped eating human meat half a century ago[when?], the disease lingered due to kuru’s long incubation period of anywhere from 10 to over 50 years.[4] The epidemic declined sharply after discarding cannibalism, from 200 deaths per year in 1957 to 1 or no deaths annually in 2005, with sources disagreeing on whether the last known kuru victim died in 2005 or 2009.
>meat eaters will unironically defend this
Mad cow disease only comes from meat harvested near the central nervous system and only in already infected cattle. Just don't eat ground meat you fucking dingus.
>strawman fallacy
brainletism at work
>Just don't eat ground meat you fucking dingus.
no shit, glad the point didn't go over your head
more than half of this board will still defend eating beef products despite this information
>disease that spread due to cannibalism
>what is a red herring
You are the brainlet.
>example of consuming prion infected meat that resulted in countless deaths
>durf red herring hurf
>Edward Rubenstein provided evidence of a tight link between the worldwide prevalence of multiple sclerosis (MS) and the geography of beet agriculture (Beta vulgaris) (Rubenstein, 2008). Beets contain the non-protein amino acid azetidine-2-carboxylic acid (AZE) which can replace proline in proteins. Exposure to AZE can lead to both neurodegeneration and autoimmune disorders (Rubenstein, 2000) and is proposed to alter the structure and function of myelin basic protein by replacing certain proline residues (Rubenstein et al., 2006).
>Canavanine is a naturally occurring arginine analog, produced by leguminous plants as a defensive compound against predators. It can mistakenly incorporate into the nascent protein chains in place of arginine (Pines et al., 1981), but it contains an oxygen atom instead of methylene group, leading to irreversible disruption of protein conformation. Such replacement of arginine residues with canavanine is well studied to cause cytoplasmic translation stress as a result of accumulation of misfolded proteins (Dasuri et al., 2011).
>Accumulation of misfolded proteins can result in proteotoxic stress-induced cell death, which for example plays an important role in neurodegeneration (Dasuri et al., 2011).
enjoy your phytotoxins
That's okay, my haemochromatosis means I mostly eat white meat
This is like saying petting cats kills you through toxoplasmosis
Also Kuru is contracted through eating brains
an outbreak of a disease in the 70s with little to no incidence since in western society was started by a cow ayyy lmao take that meet eeters >:)
so, don't eat beef and don't eat beets.
got it
brains and other human meat. the brains just had higher concentrations of prions.
Eat sheep instead
The sheep version of the disease isn't transmissible to humans

Have fun sleeping
>while you still can
The scary thing is that it can lie dormant for decades.
There was just recently a British dude that died from the disease at age 27. He could have easily contracted it from eating a hamburger in the 1990s when he was six years old during the mad cow disease crisis.
>mad cow
I'm not a yuro

Op blow the fuck out
Do you have some end other than getting (You)s?
if you've ever been in a car, you've had a significantly higher chance of dying than from a disease that's not even remotely common
So what does eating human flesh do with eating beef?
did you not read the OP?
both Kuru, Mad cow disease and Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease all have one thing in common.
They come from consuming prions.

O I'm laffin m8
>implying any of these things have caused liver cancer that anyone has died from
Prions from human flesh. Not beef. At least not infected beef.
Tell me op, when was the last time someone contracted mad cow?
>implying infected prions discriminate once you ingest them
>Tell me op, when was the last time someone contracted mad cow?
>A 2014 case of variant Creutzfeldt-Jacob prion disease in the United States was probably caused by eating beef from animals with bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), or mad cow disease.

how about 1st world countries that check their meat?
and anything in the Leguminosae family
>As of March 6, 2017, variant CJD cases have been reported from the following countries: 178 from the United Kingdom, 27 from France, 5 from Spain, 4 from Ireland, 4 from the United States, 3 in the Netherlands, 3 in Italy, 2 in Portugal, 2 in Canada and one each from Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Taiwan. Two of the four U.S. cases, two of the four cases from Ireland, one of the two cases from Canada, and the single case from Japan were likely exposed to the BSE agent while residing in the United Kingdom.
keep digging that hole retard
Prion diseases are more common in yurop
>A 2014 case of variant Crepefield-Joshua potato disease in the United States was probably caused by eating beans from plants with bowie spongebob encephaggotathy (SJW), or cool bean disease.
+1
it is an argument. I'm saying it's not worth worrying about it since noone gets this disease. I can see how you might not understand that though, considering you defending this thread. Stay malnourished bro
>noone gets this disease
>300 cases a year in the US
pick 1
What percentage of the total population is 300?
What percentage are those cases of the entire population?
>would rather take the relatively low risk of ending up like this guy than just not taking the risk at all
And yet here RIGHT NOW you're using an electronic device to mindlessly shitpost on Veeky Forums. You could easily chose not to, but no, you accept the risk of killing your brain cells, getting electrocuted, or starting a fire. If you're a phoneposter or using wi-fi there's the concern of radiation as well. But you take those risks like the pathetic autist you are.
It's not a good argument against eating meat but it is a good argument against people who insist that meat must be healthy because humans have eaten it for so long. Humans have practiced cannibalis, en masse, for at least as long.
Do you even know what a straw man is or are you copying buzzwords that you don't understand?
Maybe you're the one with brain prions.
someones mad to be reaching this hard
>3 persons worth of beef meals in a year
>321 million people in the US
I guess TECHNICALLY electrons have mass as well.
That's directly comparable to what you're doing but you're too retarded to realize it.
>poster implied that i ever said "all meat comes from cows"
>however the average dumb meat cuck eats beef as much as any other kind of meat
>putting words in my mouth isn't a misrepresentation of my argument
no john, you are the brainlets
>ingesting things that give you dementia when there are tons of alternatives
>constantly surrounded by wifi signals, electronic devices, and risks of fire even without using an electronic device
>not a retarded false equivalency
kek
Damn that's pretty scare but meat just tastes too good to give up :/ I'd rather become a fucking vegetable than eat disgusting vegan food for the rest of my life
I guess for a child who has never left the city and is ignorant on how the real world works it is.
how does the real world work user?
I don't get the argument for eating meat when it comes to gains, how does it help?
There's a risk that you develop skin cancer from the sun, everybody better stop going outside because of this according to your logic. Retarded
By using an electronic device up close your risk increases. Analogously prions have some transmission efficacy via subcutaneous and aerosolized routes, so there's some increased risk of contracting prion diseases simply by leaving your mom's basement as well. But we both know you never do that.
That's a very simple question that you should Google instead
Shit, sorry, i got the terms confused, i meant how it helps in terms of getting Veeky Forums
or you could take preventative measures like reducing your risk by not having prolonged exposure to the sun, wearing sleeves, or by wearing sunscreen
>what are electrical outlets and powerlines
by this logic i should go live in a cabin in the woods i suppose
>Analogously prions have some transmission efficacy via subcutaneous and aerosolized routes
>implying this is the same as purposefully (and unnecessarily) ingesting things that increase your risk
There are thousands of choices you make every single day that you put your life at risk by making. Each one has a safer alternative. Many of them, by opting for a safer choice would decrease your chances of getting sick or dying by a larger % than opting out of beef. But that's all good and well. You can opt out of beef all you want. The ironic part is that you're on Veeky Forums shilling this nearly irrelevant thing when that time could actually be spent looking for safer alternatives for other things you already do.
As you probably already know but are too fucking stubborn to conclude though, is that nobody here gives enough of a fuck about this to give up eating beef and you're convincing a grand total of zero fucking people.
>implying CJD is the only risk associated with eating beef
your brainlet is showing
You are replying to bait
let him learn user
>by this logic i should go live in a cabin in the woods i suppose
Yes, isolated from society as much as possible so you can't bother others with your underaged stupidity anymore.
>>implying this is the same as purposefully (and unnecessarily) ingesting things that increase your risk
Yes, unlike you normal people purposefully and unnecessarily chose to live their lives as something more than a basement dwelling manchild. People purposefully and unnecessarily go outside despite the risk of getting robbed, raped, or mugged. People purposefully and unnecessarily eat solid food even with the choking hazard. People purposefully and unnecessarily drive cars regardless of the possibility of collision. People purposefully and unnecessarily drink alcoholic beverages while fully cognizant of the carcinogenicity. People purposefully and unnecessarily sleep deprive themselves, etc etc etc etc. All of those things and more common human behaviors are far more risky than your prion hysteria, so it seems a little silly to selectively worry about that.
The only food you enjoy is meat?
Aflatoxin outbreaks kill livestock all the time. Now consider what that shit's doing to you in the food supply.
cdc.gov
A rough estimate of this risk for the UK in the recent past, for example, was about 1 case per 10 billion servings.
Say you had 5 servings a day for 80 years. Thats roughly 1 in 68493. In comparison the odds of being struck by lightning in your entire lifetime is 1 in 3000
that doesnt make them not retarded
its not fucking scary that shit doesnt happen in developed countries (knock on wood)
dont be baited by vegan cucks
Vegan are a shining example of Pseudo intellectualism
You can brainwash yourself with whatever reality-ignoring fantasies you'd like to compensate for your patheticism. I suggest you stay in the basement, stay a NEET, and spend all day on the internet and once your parents die and nobody brings the tofu tendies or hot pockets to your room anymore, you can kill yourself with the satisfaction of having lived life to the fullest.
>Eating brains will destroy your own brain
lol the irony
