It's because you use your lats to lock out in a deadlift. Ie, you are at the very least using the correct muscles and maybe even deadlifting correctly.
To anyone wondering, you should be pulling the bar close to your body the entire time you deadlift. Flex your fucking lats and pull like you were trying to pass it through your legs.
