depends
are you gonna be a little bitch about it?
so probably yes

How long does it take to recover from this, and can I never squat or deadlift anymore?

So I get people saying from 6 weeks to a few years.. I don't have much back pain at all, only slight tingling on my feet... Hopefully I recover withnin a few months..

How do you know that's what you got?

These are the two most essential answers you need to see, OP.

See

Spondylolisthesis?

Had one from doing deadlifts like an idiot. was doing 90kg lel

recovered 4 months

doing 165kg now

fuck injuries, rest up and gitgud

I don't know what I have but feet numbing, mild lower back pain is generally a sign of herniated disc isn't it..

Lower back pain is very generic. Feet numbing is a bit more specific.

you may have nerve damage to your spine
please see a doctor, retard

I won't describe it as numbing per say.. if someone stabbed me with a pin I can still feel it. It's more of a tingling feeling.

Yeah gonna do that later.. hopefully it's nothing bad.

Alright I came back from the doctor and she told me what I was getting is pins and needles? Like I told her what if it's slipped disk and she basically said I wasn't expecting back pain and no shooting pain down the leg. She said I strained my lower back that it's.

She basically said no squats and deadlifts so I'm good..?

Yeah just wait a couple weeks and see how it heals. The tingling in your feet sounds not very specific and probably its just something like pseudoradiculitis (I.e. nerve being a bit inflamed/overstretched) and it will heal by itself. Just avoid dead and squats for a while and any other really heavy load on your spine. Work on accessories and leg curls etc until than, avoid what gives more pain.

Alright leg curls sounds cool. Yeah basically she said how you don't really have herniated disc unless you have shooting pain down the leg, like a electric current but I haven't felt that yet.

I hope this doesn't destroy me or anything..

don't be so cavalier

everyone tweeks their back while lifting at some point. But if you have any neurological symptoms, like weakness, tingling, loss of sensation, loss of strength, etc you need an MRI immediately. Your disc absolutely could be herniated--there's no rule that says "if you don't have pain, it's not herniated"

ok op

get "Back Mechanic" By Stuart McGill and fix yourself riight up

feet and lower back might be just sciatica, i have similar symptoms and i lift heavy just fine.

its fixable.

mri doesnt show anything more than skilled spine specialist doing proper assesment.

It can be usefull when theres significant structural damage but wont fix causes of op injury that was bad movement pattern / overuse in the first place

tldr
op doesnt know what ia neutral spine and hip hinge

Yeah I told the doctor I experienced tingling in my feet, but she said it's unlikely a result of slipped disk. Because there isn't anything else like loss of sensation or weakness or anything. Just tingling. My back doesn't really hurt, it's more of sore if anything. Like I can still bend and twist and do stupid shit. There's nothing that makes me go OUCH or anything.. but yeah I gonna keep a look out on this

How, deadlifts ?

MRI is pointless unless you're shitting yourself or literally unable to walk, guy tweaking his back in the gym with a possible herniation does not need one much less urgently.

Also for our guy MRI is again pointless unless he's willing to go for back surgery which has fairly shitty success rates.

Exactly what I have, going to go see my Chiro for the second time to fix my back muscle strain. Haven't squatted and deadliftan for 2 months now. Don't rush to do them and focus on recovery, I kept fucking it up because I was impatient.

Did you have any shooting pain or anything like that? Just mild back pain and pins and needles in the feet? I asked the doc and she basically said "yeah don't do anything" and it would heal itself.

thought you said you had a herniated disc?

Shooting pain if I rush into doing deadlift, leg press, squats and anything that uses back muscle. If I'm not really doing anything then it's just sore. Go to Chiro, they recommend you stretches and exercises that you can do at home to fix strains. My Chrio doc lifts as well and teaches Chiro at Uni, he told me to just work around it instead of stopping completely.
I thought I had that, turned out it's a strain. I'm relieved.

Yeah that's weird because I never get any shooting pain or any of those electric current pain.. but yeah dumbbell lunges for a few months I guess

this: I herniated my L4 & L5 and one of my symptoms was the feeling you described. fucking NHS dragged their heels on an MRI and I ended up with compressed nerves in addition to the disc fluid leaking in to my spine, which pretty much stopped me from walking for two years.

had a double discectomy back in July, which has sorted the leg pains but I still get pains in my lower back when I'm at work (i.e. sitting down all day). surgeon did say it could take up to two years to fully recover though. can't really say how it would affect your workout because I only started going to the gym a month ago, so am just using the machines and don't really know what I'm talking about yet.

I came back after 1 year from just stretching it amd resting it and pulled a PR. I had severe numbness, trouble walking, lotta pain. Fixed it myself just do a lot of research.

Oh shit man. Alright I bette really keep a lookout on my condition. I really really hope it nothing serious

The doc told me to go to a specialist if I encounter any shooting pain, so yeah I'm gonna keep an eye on that. So far never encountered them before.

to be fair, the surgeon did say that a lot of people have disc bulges and it doesn't bother them so you might be okay. and it probably doesn't help that I sit down all day for work. I would try and nip it in the bud sooner rather than later though.

Don't worry OP the rest of us are all gonna make it.

N-no...

The cold and hard truth is that it is mostly over, yes. I can confirm - slipped two discs (neck and back) and it fucking sucks.

The hernia in the back is recurring, so once or twice a year the disc slips, and I have to stop training for a couple of month - this happens despite regular physiotherapy exercises and stretching. Chiropractic doesn't help either. The hernia in the neck isn't as painful, but since I have the disc constantly pressing on some nerve, I lost a lot of sensitivity in one thumb and mobility of the head is limited in one direction. The only option that is left is an operation for the back hernia, but those usually create more problems than they solve.
