Post hideous weapons

Post hideous weapons.

Just what the fuck is that? It looks like it's deformed, why use this fucking travesty instead of a scimitar?

Presumably the flared out part of the blade has a back edge, thus you get a broadened tip area because you can't have a spine there.
It's also very probable that the tip area isn't only wider, but also flatter. Extreme cutting swords tend to be shaped like this. For example, many medieval falchions are so wafer-thin that corrosion has eaten a hole through the middle of the blade.
Some falchions also incorporated the flared tip with a back edge design too, by the way.

Making the tip of the sword wider gives it more mass, heightening its center of gravity and making it a better cutter without compromising the thickness of the blade.

It’s employing a false edge, which is good to utilise in a bind and strike with while the opponents sword is struck away.

Single handed weapons are generally good for archers and Cavarlymen which the Otttomans made great use of.

weight towards the point, thin and broad blade geometry optimized for cutting and a good curvature to give it that extra slice.

and how would a straight sword deal with a shield?

Thats not a Buckler.

stabbing somebody around the edge of the shield perhaps

Ugh, hideous culicue. Looks like something inspired by Trumps bedroom.

(You)

>judging killing tools by their aesthetics instead of their effectiveness

>Cutting boneless carcass
Tho it's nice for a change that they are not testing katana on this.

Nice, look kinda east asian

woah it was that simple huh? Then why the fuck people bothered with shields?

They are probably related to the Greek Kopis.

The Kilij is a scimitar you retard. It's what the entire thing is literally based on.

> the Early Middle Ages, the Turkic people of Central Asia came into contact with Middle Eastern civilizations through their shared Islamic faith. Turkic Ghilman mamelukes serving under the Umayyad and Abbasid Caliphates introduced "kilij" type sabers to all of the other Middle Eastern cultures. Previously, Arabs and Persians used straight-bladed swords such as the earlier types of the Arab saif, takoba and kaskara.

The tip was made heavier to increase impact like a hammer.

to block arrows?

The effectiveness of a curved blade from horseback is far superior to a straight blade from horseback. It's all about being mounted, and letting the horse provide the power. Slashing, in this case.

except middle easterners did use shields you fucking retard, it wasn't a counter to curved swords anymore than it was a counter to other weapons

weapons that can't stab are fucking worthless
>b-but no one had armor in the Asia and Middle East so it's ok the fucking thing was useless against armor!
bullshit, they knew chainmail, good luck cutting through that

I don't think the Ottomans or Turkic/Mongol people in general needed help on how to use their weapons from you.

Attached: 3758.jpg (1104x834, 406K)

Gentlemen, behold!

Attached: Hunga Munga.jpg (630x480, 52K)

So you agree? There is a reason *middle easterns too* used shields you know?

Curved swords are very awkward tools when it comes to stabbing. Slashing is a quite broad move and easy to block with a shield or even a sword. Not to speak about armour which you are really going to struggle to have any effect against with curves swords. Despite you thinking that katanas slice through mail like butter, they don't. If your opponent has shield and armour you just aren't going to kill him until he tires out or makes a mistake. However a stab with a straight blade, which can be performed really quickly and unpredictedly, can be the decisive factor when you try and go around the shield or find holes in your opponent's armour.

Never said they make curved swords obsolete. Simply a straight sword comes in much handier.

Sincerely,

retard right back at you.

>empire
>includes vassal states

I don't think you are white so your opinion doesn't matter

If straight swords were so superior why did euros keep getting rekt by them and why did many european armies like poland and hungary adopt curved swords?

Let's fix that, most weapons from that continent look absolutely appalling, with a few exceptions

>it has a curve, so it can't be used for stabbing
This is from some old D&D rule that wormed its way into popular consciousness, right?

Attached: Chauchat-firing.jpg (720x487, 66K)

How does this thing work exactly?
Or is it a farming instrument?

It can be used in close combat as a hatchet or dagger, or more typically, thrown. The curved hook was used to keep the weapon in the victim, and if pulled out, causing further damage.

He and the guy he replied to were just being ironic.

Wooden shields were superior in some cases because if you picked a nice thick, pulpy wood it would catch the enemy's weapon and hold it stuck, effectively disarming him.

You have absolutely no idea how swords work or how combat against somebody in full plate works.

>I've built a firearm that allows me to miss with 4 bullets at once!

Translate: It means Nigger, Nigger

is that a kit rae?

Scimitar could mean any Arabic, middle eastern or Persian sword with a curved sabre blade. That is a scimitar you fucking retard.

Just what the fuck is that? It looks like it's deformed, why use this fucking travesty instead of a schwert?

Attached: IMG_1105.jpg (1200x800, 349K)

it does look fucking ugly as fuck

European nobles liked to do this too in the 15th and 16th centuries. They have a whole bunch of them at the metropolitan museum in new York.

shotels are cool, but they look silly

Attached: ph-0.jpg (640x427, 24K)

African weapons are baller as fuck, get some taste shithead.

>The effectiveness of a curved blade from horseback is far superior to a straight blade from horseback
Not necessarily.
It's just a difference in doctrine.
Running someone through with a long metal skewer with the momentum of a horse behind you can be just as fatal as slashing him with the momentum of a horse behind you, if not more so.

Of course on the other hand a curved blade is more effective for a cavalryman engaged in a static fight, but then again getting your cavalry in a static fight kind if defeats the whole idea of cavalry.

Yeah but they suck as actual weapons because they're made of inferior nig iron.

>Curved swords are very awkward tools when it comes to stabbing. Slashing is a quite broad move and easy to block with a shield or even a sword.

>Bind enemy shield with your shield.
>Slash at his legs
Overly simplified but that's the general idea.

>boneless
look again newfriend

You should never fucking do a cutting test on a hanging carcass. The problem is that as you cut into it, gravity is giving you a lot of help as the target essentially tears itself apart.

Every cutting test done like this is essentially useless, you'd be surprised how little effort it takes

This scares the virgin janissaries

>copy the weapon of your enemies
>Poland stronk!

why? Turks used sabres too

actually Poland adopted sabres thanks to hungarian born king Stefan Batory

Because European military commanders at the time were for the most part utter retards lol

And now for something utterly boring

The Polish and Hungarian Hussars are ultimately copies off Earlier Tatar/Cuman raiders and then Ottoman Light Cavalry, particularly the Deli.

>1550
Hungarian gear is TURKED by that point.

>Choose to misunderstand
>be just retarded
which one is it?

First of all curved swords work well when slashing like i told. If your opponent doesnt have any defensive gear it can be even more effective. This is why people in hotter climates tend to have curved swords because due to the climate, heavy armor isn't really an option.

>if you have slightly better swords you win wars.

Also what about the 1st one? Alexander great? they all used straight blades and btfo easterns.
>won only because of the blades t. retard

>The talwar originated alongside other curved swords such as the Persian shamshir, the Turkish kilij and the Afghan pulwar, all such swords being originally derived from earlier curved swords developed in Turkic Central Asia

>Vassal states aren't part of empires

I don't see the problem with it. Romans adopted chainmail from Celts and look how well they did.

I don't see the problem with it either, but when you point that out to Eastern European nationalists they just go "REEE ITS NOT, OC DONUT STEEL."

>Also what about the 1st one? Alexander great? they all used straight blades and btfo easterns
Tbf we shouldn't talk reference spectacular generals when we're talking about sword quality.

Attached: 1518124797833.png (323x856, 33K)

but Arabs used straight blades...

Haha. I as well am a nationalist hunter, fellow redditor.

never heard any eastern Euro saying anything like it

I dunno, seems elegant to me.

Try hanging around Youtube comments sections. You'll also find Turkish nationalists in screaming matches with them.

>Turkish nationalists

'Turks' would suffice.

>Youtube comments sections
wow they truly represent how people feel

kill yourself

not only did the Arabs use straight blades, but they probably used a majority of spears at yarmouk.

>why did euros keep getting rekt by them
Low iq

How fucking awkward is it to unsheathe that thing? You'd need to make one hell of a move, like damn, you'd most likely die before even fighting.
