>history brainlets overly fascinated with military history
Don’t get me wrong, military history is interesting, but it’s only necessary to understand the major implications between different parties.

After the staggering losses to hold Verdun, the French Army teetered on the brink of collapse with mutinies breaking out. The general staff decided men at random would be selected for execution as a tool of terror. Some of the men who were shot were previously decorated for bravery.

I'm sorry if any of these pictures are against the rules for their content, since this is a blue board after all. However history, war especially, is generally quite violent.

“The elephants gave spine-chilling screams. Their house was still standing but an explosive bomb of terrific force had landed behind it, lifted the dome of the house, turned it round, and put it back on again... The baby cow elephant was lying in the moat on her back with her legs helplessly reaching up toward the sky, suffering severe stomach injuries unable to move. The hippopotamuses were drowned when debris pinned them to the bottom of their water basin. In the ape house, a gibbon reached out to the trainer, only bloody stumps left of its arms. Nearly forty rhesus monkeys escaped to the trees but were dead by the next day from drinking water polluted by the incendiary chemicals. The next day, a U.S. aircraft pilot flew in low, firing at anything he could see was still alive... In this way, our last giraffe met her death. Many stags and others animals which we had saved became victims of this hero.”

The french revolution ended the chivalary in warfare, states were meant to evolve in the sence of adopting regulations over warfare, but the rebirth of ideological wars that was brought by the french as only escalated war, and has become today a meat grinder devoid of heroic feats of arms were litlle to no regard is held for the enemy
If anyone should have had a worse treaty then the german´s Versailles or the russians at Brest-Litovski was fr*nce at Wien, utter desmembration

U.S. Navy sailors of the USS Bunker Hill (CV-17) Essex-class aircraft carrier watch the towering flames following the second Japanese kamikaze assault on the ship. The first Japanese Mitsubishi A6M Zero kamikaze pilot dropped a 550-pound (250 kilogram) bomb that penetrated the flight deck and exited from the side of the ship at gallery deck level before exploding in the ocean. Gasoline fires flamed up and several explosions took place. The A6M Zero then crashed onto the carrier’s flight deck, destroying parked warplanes full of aviation fuel and ammunition, causing a large fire. The second kamikaze suicide dive occurred a mere thirty seconds after the first assault when another A6M Zero went through the antiaircraft fire, dropped a 550-pound bomb, and then crashed into the flight deck near the carrier’s “island”, as kamikazes were trained to aim for the island superstructure. The bomb penetrated the flight deck and exploded. Bunker Hill lost a total of 346 sailors and airmen killed, 43 more missing (and never found), and 264 wounded. The order to abandon ship was given when the carrier started to list eleven degrees to her port side because of the weight of all of the water which had been needed to extinguish the fires that had drained into the decks below, but a small skeleton crew volunteered to stay aboard to try to save her, which proved successful. Does a documentary where they show you the gross videos and pictures exists?

I wonder if they (and kamikaze pilots in general) at least knew how to land a plane.

Jesus Christ what happened?

I just used Google reverse search, it's apparently the corpse of a pilot killed during the Pearl Harbor attack that is being raised on the deck.

Is that a fucking AE-86 on the left there?

Serious question: how do we stop war?

we can't we can only make it more humane

Trade and globalisation.
People are unlikely to go to war with someone should they lose from it.

The more trade, the less war.

You can't. Human warring goes back to when were competing with other tribal groups before agriculture.

The world had plenty of trade going on before ww1, and yet that war still happened.

They’re not that bad faggot

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oradour-sur-Glane_massacre
On 10 June, Diekmann's battalion sealed off Oradour-sur-Glane and ordered everyone within to assemble in the village square to have their identity papers examined. This included six non-residents who happened to be bicycling through the town when the SS unit arrived. The women and children were locked in the church, and the village was looted. The men were led to six barns and sheds, where machine guns were already in place.

According to a survivor's account, the SS men then began shooting, aiming for their legs. When victims were unable to move, the SS men covered them with fuel and set the barns on fire. Only six men managed to escape. One of them was later seen walking down a road and was shot dead. In all, 190 Frenchmen died.

The SS men next proceeded to the church and placed an incendiary device beside it. When it was ignited, women and children tried to escape through the doors and windows, only to be met with machine-gun fire. 247 women and 205 children died in the brutal attack. The only survivor was 47-year-old Marguerite Rouffanche. She escaped through a rear sacristy window, followed by a young woman and child.[3] All three were shot, two of them fatally. Rouffanche crawled to some pea bushes and remained hidden overnight until she was found and rescued the next morning. About twenty villagers had fled Oradour-sur-Glane as soon as the SS unit had appeared. That night, the village was partially razed.

>The world had plenty of trade going on before ww1
The existance of trade does not prevent war. But the increase in trade will reduce the risk of war.

Fucking why?

>" ... these men had become fighting mad." - Thirion, French cavalry
>To Thirion it had seemed 'these men [Poles] had become fighting mad. How many didn't I see who, with arm or leg bandaged, returned to the scrum at a flat-out gallop, forcefully eluding those of their comrades who tried to hold them back." (Britten-Austin -"1812 The March on Moscow" p 136)

In case of politicians, by being a laughing stock that bends to every demand a stronger state up to a point the nation either gets impoverished and totally dependent or outright genocided
In case of normal people, by being a total doormat that isn't respected by men and undesired by women

We have we have nukes

Then why did the opium wars happen, or France ‘invading’ the rhineland

Apparently it was reprisals for the death of a German soldier.

Go back and watch that ww1 video and then try to see why this post is so very misguided. I don't even necessarily disagree with what you're saying here even, but this sort of attitude is absolutely stupid.

Context?

ThisIt’s already happening. We are leaving in the most peaceful time in history. Practically the only conflicts we have now are civil wars and international interventions. Open wars of aggression in Europe, the Americas and most of Asia are pretty much impossible. Africa and the ME will still see some conflicts, but none close to the scale we had in the past.
Thank trade, globalization, technology, diplomacy and nuclear weapons.

That video (which gets posted all over and over again) isn't very realistic, it's sensationalistic and has clear agenda behind it - it deliberately features ambient music, strange noises, anti-war interwar period movies (although honestly most of them are done by doctors) and retarded red-and-dark filter, which somehow makes it everything more "evil". If you removed all those effects and posted raw footage - preferably colorised, if you can still call it "raw" - most of the "horror" is gone. Frankly, /watch?v=nq7gSpR9iqM is much better presentation of war.

Also it doesn't matter whether my opinion is stupid or not, violence is inherent to humanity and people often don't realise how much we owe to the hundreds of thousands of illiterate rapists and looters before we came to be. The moment you allow some faggot to slap your gf's ass is an act of subservience, and according to all respectable people, you are very much expected to escalate the situation into the conflict, whether based on harsh words or outright force.

>The Poles were limitlessly confident in Emperor's genius. "We could have been asked to conquer the moon, and we'd have responded with Forward, march !" - wrote young officer Joseph Zaluski of Old Guard Lancers. Napoleon abdicated on 6 April 1814. Colonel Krasinki, wearing his parade uniform announced the news to his lancers and all began to weep. They regreted they had not all been killed before hearing that anyone had dared demand Napoleon's abdication. The lancers sent the following memorial to Napoleon: "Sire: Released from our obligations, we come with one accord to place at Your Imperial Majesty's feet the arms that no man could take from us by force. ... As Poles we have served the most amazing man of the century "

Sun Tzu agrees. Trying to fight a war humanely or giving your enemy quarter only prolongs it, and thus the suffering. Brutal and quick is preferable to humane and long.

This picture always makes me sad. To think the kneeling sister must live with this for the rest of her life, even assuming she survives). It makes me think about whether I would be capable of holding that memory, plus others. I wonder if she lived and I wonder if any of her family does. But most of them are probably dead by now.

They knew how to land a plane, but could only do it once.

Outright pacifism is bad when you're the only one doing it. But war shouldn't be regarded as the strong or manly thing to do if there's another option, especially in modern times. If you're a weak nation then you have little to gain from fighting a stronger state besides exclusion from the liberal order and poverty. As for violence being part of our history, full scale war is not necessary anymore. The United States has set up an order with this line of thinking. Although violence was needed to set up the current capitalist system, with land grabbing and genocide, we have reached a level where most nations are on par with each other culturally and technologically, so they can trade.

The deemphasis of war is the deemphasis of Men, as the evolutionary purpose of Men is to fight in war.

Reminder these kind of massacres happened several times in western europe but frequently in eastern europe. In fact, the SS who did it were back from the eastern front. There could be hundreds of similar cases.
