Based on the research I've read. A 24-hour fast once or twice a week shouldn't negatively affect a woman's period. 16-8 daily shouldn't be an issue, either. Also, there is a multitude of factors that can be in play. When one starts fasting, it may not be the only variable in their life that has changed.

I was looking up negative effects of fasting, and almost all of them that I ran into were from women.
The only negative effects I read for guys was from some who went on a 20+ day fast and a few months later their hair fell out in droves.

This is literally an epidemic that is affecting predominately women, which I think is exactly why women have been getting fatter over the years. It's partially because yes, women are eating shitty diets and eating more and being fucking pigs (see obese), but for those that are merely overweight or just not thin, it is an epidemic with estrogen predominance, chemicals in food, and other things that are causing extreme hormonal disorders.
But when your calories are reduced to less than 1000 to lose weight, you encounter metabolic issues and hitting macros on such a small amount of calories is extremely difficult. Reducing calories makes those conditions worse. And notice I pointed out a very good chunk of women have these hormonal disorders now (graves, hashimotos, hypothyroid, thyroid cancers, PCOS...) in great numbers. Calories in Calories out does not work and neither does fasting for women. Only men, as long as their test levels are fine. Women need an elimination diet, where all offending foods are eliminated until the cause of disease is found. What ends up happening though is a lot of these women end up only being able to eat the same 10-15 foods since these disorders make them allergic or have intolerance to nearly everything. Again, this is because of shitty chemicals and other additives affecting women as their bodies are more sensitive to those things.

Except women have hormonal disorders in greater numbers while most men do not, aside from low test which is easier to fix than the problems women can get. Their hormones and bodyfat need to be at the right levels and also they can't be too stressed. A lot of things caused missed periods. All it means is they can't have a baby at that time usually. Women don't really want to miss periods as it causes bad skin (cystic acne), poor bone health, and messes with hormones which can lead to further health issues.
How do I combat this? I've been really struggling losing weight on a fast and I don't really know what I can do about it.

Food is not just CICO. There is a hormonal aspect to it as well. The problem with caloric restriction like that is that it can work at first, but as one loses weight, their metabolic rate decreases as well.
However, with IF, you get around that decreasing metabolic rate and just have the reduction in calories. This is why it works better than traditional dieting in many respects.

Also. 5:2 is not true intermittent fasting. If you have 500 calories during a "fasting" period, then you are just doing severe caloric restriction, not fasting. Fasting implies zero to very few calories. 5:2 is basically just a carbon copy of Eat Stop Eat, except Eat Stop Eat says no calories to few (e.g. cup of tea with no sugar) for a period of 20-24 hours once or twice a week. The nice part is that you should be sleeping for 7-8 of those hours.
Some even argue that Leangains isn't even true intermittent fasting but intermittent feeding. It's even less intermittent fasting because many people use BCAAs as preworkout during their fasting windows and think that they are still fasting. BCAAs still have calories in them. There is just some nutritional loophole or something that doesn't require companies to label how many calories they have on their product.
