Accutane

Veeky Forums I have had bad acne for the last decade. I have been very hesitant to try accutane because hemochromatosis (liver problem) runs in my family. I am also very freaked out by the mental health problems as well. What do you think I should do? I am sick of this acne, but I don't want to fuck my body or head up.

Did you try a retinol yet? i have a perscription and most of my shit cleared up in like 6 months

How old are you? Where is your acne located? Have trird changing your diet? Can you grow a full beard?

I've been on accutane four times.

>mental health problems

This is bullshit and can't understand how they put it in there. Some kid couldn't handle the fact that acne might get worse for a week and it pushed them over the edge. Now it says suicide as side-effect.

It's not a psychoactive substance. Liver issues are more likely, and if you already have liver problems I wouldn't suggest it. Personally, I never had issue with accutane other than dry skin and lips, and the occasional nose bleed.

Really, go ask a doctor rather than us

Try a topical retinoid like tretinoin, that shit is straight up magic in a tube. Don't try to mix it with anything else though.

The mental health side effects of roaccutane are not a meme. Be very careful. I can 100% understand why someone would attempt suicide whilst on a course

>Can you grow a full beard?
why does this matter? im curious

Just talk to a doctor, I'm on it now and it's doing wonders for me. I have to go for a check up once a month and they take blood samples to see if everything is alright. As long as you're open with your doctor you should be alright. But honestly it feels pretty fucking good to be without acne

Same here

Because developed facial hair follicles are less prone to acne.

if he doesn't have a full beard, he might try the unorthodox method of applying minoxidil on his face, instead of using Accutane.

I was on accutane when I was 15 (pic is me unfortunately). Had horrible acne because of smoking. Had not noticed any mental changes though. But my lips were teared and were bleeding every single time I ate, my face was scraping (don't know if that's the proper English term) and worst thing was that everytime I took a shit, my dry asshole tears opened up and I was pushing blood along with a shit while ravaging my fist against a bath tub and swallowing my tears. Been at it about 6 months. It was suffering but it was worth it.

Yes it takes a toll on the liver, especially when you are a slav and drink through the whole time of usage

I should probably mention the side effects I had. Most notable was chapped lips, just drink shit tons of water and use aquaphor or carmax chapstick. I did have a few periods of depression, but I've already had those so who knows if it was the medicine or just me

I took it when I was 15 and it stunted my growth so now I'm an 18yo 5"9.5 manlet when I was projected to be 5"11-6 ft

just use Duac cream its worked better than accutane for me

>Some kid couldn't handle the fact that acne might get worse for a week and it pushed them over the edge. Now it says suicide as side-effect.
That's not how it works you stupid faggot.

I was on it for a little over a year (doc said that was a really long time). It cleared my shit right up. Worst thing was my skin got so dry I had to lotion several times a day, looked like I took a weed whacker to my skin. Also take had to take it with food or I got sick.

Avoid it at all costs if possible. Literally try everything else before you do it.
It has permanently fucked my vision up since taking it.

i'm on acutane right and seriously it works fine.
If you have liver problems and stuff you should first talk about it with the doctor and secondly for the mental health stuff if you are pretty stable you will be fine too.

It fucked me up mentally and physically at the time. Muscle aches, insomnia, depression. But I would do it again because it's worth it now. I wish I'd have done it sooner. My early twenties and college life were completely ruined by acne. That shit fucked me up more mentally than accutane could possibly do.
Just try it. I don't see why not honestly. Start with the lowest dosage for a month and see how you react. You can stop whenever you want.

I did it when I was 16 and I was fine. I'm 19 now and acne proof. It was worth it.

uh, I had very bad acne, probably severe acne, and I kept it under control. No need for accutane.

Do this for 3 weeks, if nothing improves then I would go on oral antibiotics first. Accutane as last resort only.

- No Dairy, wheat, gluten, SUGAR, CAFFEINE or any stimulants.
- No porn, masturbation, ejaculation.
- Take zinc, ashwagandha, vit d3, Evening primrose oil
- Sleep 7-8hours a day

Do that for 3-4 weeks if you want to boost effectiveness then get some clindoxyl or something similar its a antibiotic topical with BP, helps with inflammation of acne.

Medfag here, you shouldn't worry about hemochromatosis when taking accutane
, but watch out your vitamin A ingestion.
Isotretinoin and retinol act very similarly and lead to similar problems
Don't listen to him

Just use benzoyl peroxide cream.

Fuck these meme acne-treating products that get mentioned so much in these kind of threads. You should try apple cider vinegar twice a day. Also acne is kind of impossible to remove completely, but you sure can do a lot in terms of reducing it. I also though that only dairy products caused it, but turned out it was anything fried for me, not even sugar. Srsly give ACV a try, it might do wonders for you.

I'm in my early 30s and have have acne since i was around 18. I have Duac but that is like using nukes on your face (its last resort). I find the drugs/creams etc just fix the acne i see on my face and not the underlying cause. If i missed a dose it wasn't just a few spots but an explosion, then you feel like shit.

I just had to accept there will be foods i just can't eat (you gotta experiment to find out and its not fun...) and that i'd have to look after my skin like a woman (Korean 10 step routine made my normal face routine look like pants). Now my skin is more calm and relaxed, isn't doing anything crazy and is relatively acne free.

I know acne is ruining your life OP but don't take the easy drug option, try everything else first.

Out of curiosity where are you from OP and what have you been doing for your acne? a decade is a long time...

t. had a few spots and not actual acne

Accutane is the only solution.

Don't listen to the fags that say just stop drinking milk or change your pillow cover every day. That shit doesn't work for real acne.

Accutane doesn't stunt growth.

That's just a manlet excuse

I did accutane for 6 months back when i was 17. I think the dosage 20mg/day (the pill was the red one).

Cleared all of my acne and it hasn't come back. I'm 27 now so it was 10 years ago. Haven't experienced any long lasting side effects and the only ones i had were dry lips and the occasional nose bleed. Didn't experience any depression, quite the opposite really. When my skin started to clear up i got a huge confidence boost.

Yeah that shit has no effect. After taking accutane i could sleep in a tub of lard and eat whatever without any problems.

I checked it and i was incorrect. I was prescribed 2x20mg for three months and then it was dropped to 1x20mg for the remainder.

sure thing buddy I'll take your advice over a doctors, fucking retard

The projections are all bullshit anyway. They told my friend he could grow up to be 6'3 but he didn't grow any taller than 5'7.

I on the other hand grew up to be 6'1 and was told i'd be 5'9 max, plus i took accutane. I'm either the mailman's son or the accutane boosted my growth.

THANK YOU BASED MAILMAN

Multivitamin + calamine lotion cleared me up decent

I went on it, had a great doctor who cecked liver values meticuously. 4 or 5 times during treatment. Had cystic acne all over my face, neck, shoulders, back and chest.
It's a pretty tough treatment compared to what most of us probably would have experiences before. You do notice you're on something, compared to going on a antiobiotics for your ear infection or whatever.
As far as I understand, the mental health issues don't actually have enough evidence to suggest causation.

Everything became painfully dry though. Your face, lips, eyelids, hands, scalp... even your goddam dick and ass will be dry.
I didn't bother with lighter moisteurizers, I just kept a big tube of vaseline in the cooler. Applied cool and chilly vaseline everywhere when I needed too and stinging skin was no longer an issue. Also had to stay out of the sun, had to be very mindful of that. The skin felt tight and stinging almost immedeately out of the shade.

For me it was worth it though. Four years or so later my skin is still like smooth white porcelain and I didn't get any permanent side effects. I remember waking up one day and my back felt really odd against the sheets, so I reached back to feel it and it felt smooth for the first time since I was a preteen. Going from big cystic bumps and itchy scabs and then looking in the mirror and realizing they were gone was amazing.

Ultimately you're going to have to decide tourself, in connection with your doctor, if it's right for you. People with history of liver issues are sometimes denied it, as far as I know.

Topical retinols work wonders. Just buy some tretinoin cream and I guarantee that will clear up your acne.

Tretinoin cream is the only thing that has ever worked for me.

it stunted mine.. now im stuck at 6'1

I have the same type of acne as you. How's your scarring? I've finished my accutane course just today and there are a lot of red spots and scars left.
It feels good though, a nice "smooth" skin that doesn't hurt 24/7

finasteride fixed my acne

I've been on accutane before. It dries you out like the desert from the inside out. If you do it, you need to drink a shitload of water and get a solid lip balm, or you'll be delirious from dehydration with bleeding lips.
You should be drinking a shitload of water anyway.

Explains

shaving with a straight razor helped me. blades pull open your pores and if you have more than one blade the following ones are going to push shit into the opened pores. a single bladed razor doesn't do this and is better for your skin. that might help. obviously clean diet no soda super hydration and clean pillow cases is important. good luck user.
